The weight is shocking (it is heavier than my Stingray 5) so you need to take this into consideration for a standing live situation but nonetheless you get a lot of value for the money, right out of the box. Electronics sound very good and quiet, good sustain from the bridge. Tuning pegs keep the tuning quite good but are a bit stiff, maybe the only thing I would switch from the stock parts. Overall a very good bass that has upper-scale squier quality at half the price.

George, I totally agree with you! I is a very nice and good bass, but the weight is ginormous☹️ I had this bass for less than a year when i finally took it appart, i installed the neck on my Harley Benton PJ-74 VW Deluxe Series, the PJ-74 is a comfortable light weight bass, so i have a super fine custom PJ bass, i indeed changed the machine heads for Gotoh GB640 Resolight tuners........ The rest of the JB-75 i sold on marketplace....... No regrets at all because i now have a super No1 bass🥰🥰🥰 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXmolnd_Z9SHhZo You also have a Music Man Stingray 5? I have a Harley Benton MB-5 SB Deluxe Series, the first bass a bought...... Hi Giuseppe, There are a few options........ The Harley Benton PJ-74 VW Deluxe Series wich you see and hear in the video........ The Harley Benton PJ-75 VW Deluxe Series, that's a 5 string passive bass...... The Harley Benton HTR 4 or 5, in translucent red or silk black, they almost have the same specs, besides the pickups, they are ceramic pickups...... So it depends on what colour you like and want and if you want a 4 or 5 string bass..... I wish you succes choosing the right bass for you😉 If you think about changing pickups, go for the HTR series, they're a little cheaper........ On the other hand, the Roswell pickups on my PJ-74 sound very good....... If you look at a later video with the same bass, you'll see i changed the neck..... I had a Harley Benton JB-75 BK Vintage Series Jazz Bass, but that one weight to heavy for me, so i took it appart and used the neck on my PJ Bass and i upgraded the pots, wiring, put in an Orange Drop capacitor, straplocks and Gotoh GB640 Resolight tuners and a fretdress job....... On the JB-75 maple neck i slightly changed the headstock shape, put on a black nut, made a black bushing in the trussrod hole, from an old black ballpoint....... Did a fretdress job and swapped the original tuner for the Gotoh GB640 Resolight tuners from the original PJ-74 neck....... So if you give these Harley Benton basses some extra tlc and you're not afraid to work on guitars and basses, you can make it an absolute perfect instrument👌👌👌 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXmolnd_Z9SHhZo

@dennisgosens9085
@dennisgosens9085 Жыл бұрын
@@giuseppe603 If it's gonna be your first bass, i'd go for the Harley Benton PJ-74 VW Deluxe Series, it's a very good bass and in the end you might end up not changing anything on the bass, because you stil love it as it came stock..... But that's the very best value for money....... After that, for me, comes the Harley Benton HTR, you might want to upgrade the electronics after some time when you're a more experienced bass player and developed your taste of what sounds and pickups you like😉 But stil a good value for money😉 Most important! Check the specs of the basses! The PJ-74 has an alder body, maple neck and amaranth fingerboard The PJ-4 HTR has an alder body, maple neck and a roseacer fingerboard...... The PJ-4 HTR SBK has a basswood body, maple neck and a sapeli fingerboard....... So the PJ-74 comes the closest to "the real deal" so to say😉

Thanks a lot for this video. I'm guitar player, but I wanted to buy a bass for recording myself. I'm electronic engineer too, so when I saw this video, I choose Benton MB-5, I bougth it and I built in the Stingray preamp as you did it. Benton was need some nut filing, and sharp frets filing, and all the setup, but after this and after electronic instalation, this is a wonderfull instrument. The most work requires drilling a cavity for the battery. All the work took me about a week, but I did even a cavity cover inspired by original Stingray, and it looks like original now. I'm very glad to have this bass, so thank you very much one more time 🙂

@@dennisgosens9085 Yes, I used Baja schematic with corrected C7 value 10uF near the output. I built it all from the elements I found in my drawers. @@dennisgosens9085 Nice! And yes, I think the quality of HB basses is very good. I have my MB-5 in the same colors as yours. I like sunburst, and I didn't have any guitars in this colour earlier. I like maple neck with maple fingerboard too. All my guitars has dark fretboards, so I decided this is good bass for me. Earlier I saw black finished HB. It looks good to me too, but I don't trust masked wood when I don't know what is inside in such cheap guitar. In my HB I see the wood of the neck and it is good quality. I see the wood of the body too, and it is good quality too. I cut the battery cavity, and the wood is very nice and solid inside. In my particular bass the frets was very good leveled, so I could set low string action. Only frets endings was sharp, but I filed them slightly and polished them, so now the neck is very comfortable for me. I play guitars since 30 years. I have higher models of Jackson and Ibanez guitars, and in my opinion this HB bass after some cosmetic work is not much worse of them. Ofcorse in the future I can change the machineheads for better, and nut for better, maybe bridge. But hey: it all works ok for now, and I don't need do anything with this for now. I think HB guitars and basses are good base for upgrading if someone like to play upgrading. I like to tinker with the equipment and modify it, so for me this is great. And remember the price - this is the cheapest 5-string bass I think, and the quality is as in the standard playable and comfortable instruments. Maybe if I would play a shows on bass, then I would consider to buy better instrument. But I only play in home, and I need the bass for recording bass parts for my guitars riffs, so I needed sound as it is now, and I don't need anything more.

Now i almost always play my HB PJ Bass, wich has 19mm stringspacing..... I had to get used to it, but now i can easily switch between bass and guitar...... I also like to customize my gear...... They are both restored, the Hartke 210 Transporter cab is fitted with a telescope handle and cornerwheels on the back and fitted with Eden XST speakers (by Eminence) i can use it as a 2 × 10" 300Watt @ 8 Ohm set with my Ampeg PF500 Portaflex....... My first secondhand cab that i bought in 2020 is the Ashdown MAG 410T speakercabinet, wich is restored aswel and fitted with new handles, new plastic corners and also, same as the 210 cab, fitted with Eden XST speakers (by Eminence) And the 4 × 10" cab can also be use by itself, with my Ampeg PF500 Portaflex as a 300Watt @ 8 Ohm set...... But I also can use both cabs as a 500Watt @ 4 Ohm set...... This is the best offering by Harley Benton regarding jazz basses. You're getting an American Ash body, alnico jazz pickups, a beefy 'D'-profile neck, Wilkinson standard jazz bridge with brass saddles. And can be purchased NEW from Thomann currently for $155 USD, plus shipping depending on where you live. I own the natural ash model. You will never beat Harley Benton on value for your buck. You can't even buy a Fender Squier new at that price, and their quality is not as good as the Harley Benton.
