If I remember correctly, Years ago, a stadium was built, the City of Cleveland created a Cigarette Tax. Then, after it was completed, NO Smoking was allowed inside. I never understood of the concept of "Tax the People" when the owner(s) Profit! THIS is a slap in the face to the fans!

These stadiums with things to do around them is more for Baseball and Basketball in my opinion, NFL seasons have 8-10 games a season... And of course the vision is to host many events, but you have Las Vegas, Miami, New Orleans and others to compete with and I am sorry Cleveland doesn't have much to do in comparison... Now have that in place of Giants stadium near NYC and I am buying, Cleveland... not so much..

Cleveland Downtown is a great place to host events and etc. The problem is this is located outside of Cleveland with literally nothing but an airport next to it. There plan to build around it is ambitious. I covered in our podcast a little more detail on why I think its not worth building the dome and how many people overstate how much value they actually bring. One thing it does bring is more money to the owner.

Angel Hernandez is good for baseball. As long as he doesn’t ump in playoffs. That’s the only thing MLB can control. He brings excitement to the most boring sport on the planet. And yes I love baseball

I suspect that MLB is using the controversial calls to get free coverage and try to make themselves relevant. Professional sports has turned into a bunch of millionaire crybabies who can produce highlights but are incompetent in the basics of the game.

People need to realize that the MLB is trying to manipulate the fanbase into pleading for AI umpires. They will shit on the game until you beg them to go digital.

I mean honestly because having AI umps is cheaper then paying a human its not crazy to think that is going on behind the scenes. I only want the Robo-ump so you could at least challenge the call if its like bottom of the ninth 2 on situation

The strike zone is pretty well defined in the rule book, and there should be no such thing as an individual umpire's strike zone. They need to bring in an automated system for balls and strikes.

I’m not saying you’re wrong but man people truly don’t understand how difficult that job is. Split second decisions and you can’t second guess yourself. You have to stick to your guns. Ejections definitely go overboard though
@RustBeltSports
@RustBeltSports 4 ай бұрын
I wasnt saying that the strike zone isnt defined. More so saying each ump does tend to favor certain parts of the plate or maybe they call more on lower pitches or higher. Its because they all see the ball differently and have to stick to their guns. Teams have reports on every UMP to see what their tendencies are for the strike zone so they know what to look out for. I will say i dont think i would want fully automated. I think a hybrid system where their is a robo-ump that is their when the manager wants to challenge a terrible call.

How can it be that professional baseball endured for more than a century with umpires whose accuracy at calling balls and strikes is no better than 90% on average?
@RustBeltSports
@RustBeltSports 5 ай бұрын
Hey you are right it has lasted more then a century im cool with the average and pretty most of the calls. i just think for the crazy calls that fire everyone up let there be a challenge system. It makes it entertaining to if they challenge the 3rd strike bottom of the 9th and win then you get one more chance. Instead of just a terrible call that ends a fun game in a terrible way.

I believe MLB umpires are not as well trained and perhaps not as well experienced as umpires of yesteryears. I may be off on this: I vaguely recall umpires used to be assigned in the minor leagues for about ten years before they were able to qualify for umpiring the majors. The mistakes and miscalls these days are way too many than what can remember. Too many of today's major league umps suck. They may be working themselves out of work or relegated to umping little league soft ball.
@markpalleschi5172
@markpalleschi5172 5 ай бұрын
Nah they got rid of the managers really giving it to the umps Jim leyland would tear them a new asshole if he had to they need to make the umpire less of a power role and just a rule regulator they have the power to kick players out but the league should fine them if they’re terrible call caused it idc if they make less money I make even less and spend it to go watch them play not them ump
@RustBeltSports
@RustBeltSports 5 ай бұрын
Unfortunately the Umps do have too much power. The union protects them with that. It will be interesting to see if they implement the whole “roboump” in order for managers to challenge the calls.

Point is…there is a problem in the MLB…ever since they put that box up everyone is a bloody expert analyst and post game critic. Just play the damn game and stop complaining because the umps don’t do everything you want. How about you get off your keyboard and learn to ump and stop trying to ruin the game.
@RustBeltSports
@RustBeltSports 5 ай бұрын
Hey, appreciate the response not trying to ruin the game if you watch the full episode i actually explained that really it’s 2-3 umps who make wild calls who never get in trouble. I also stated nobody will be perfect the difference is consistency. If you call consistently low balls strikes then cool as long as it consistent.
@ryanhicks3080
@ryanhicks3080 5 ай бұрын
@@RustBeltSports …that’s not how it works and every umpire is different. That box tries to make every umpire the same, they’re not, and that’s a good thing. It’s what makes it game challenging, you have to learn to adjust. It’s easy to criticize when you don’t understand or care to focus on the data. Everyone I’ve seen on the internet who criticizes umps say the exact same thing and loves to collect calls where they get it wrong to point out how bad they are…but never when they get it right. The fact is that even the worst ump in the MLB has a +91% accuracy percentage. (…and no, it’s not Angel Hernandez) There will ALWAYS be a range of umpires and skills that varies season to season, just like not every pitcher throws a 2.50ERA every season. The good and consistent ones get promoted and better assignments. The others don’t and either do something to get fired, quit, or retire. That’s how it works. The alternative is ABS…which at that point, let’s just automatic everything about the game and take the humanity out of it. Errors are part of the game, let’s leave it there.
@RustBeltSports

@@ryanhicks3080 Just want to go on record and say I do not want every ump to be the same. I understand every person is seeing the ball differently just like you me may see this debate differently😂. I would just say with some crazy calls we have seen lately why not give the option the manager to challenge the call. I know the whole roboump thing is in the minors and i do not want to see that being fully implemented because the game still needs to have umps and some inconsistency but i think clean up some of the slop calls. That really do make you debate this in the first place.
@aviarto
@aviarto 5 ай бұрын
@@ryanhicks3080 MLB has concerns about the ability to manipulate the ABS in ways that are difficult to detect. The system requires frequent calibration, and I've never seen a conclusive demonstration of its reproducibility. The movement of one or two cameras could presumably alter the outcome.

It's hard to take a game seriously watching calls like this. It gets to a point you believe the umpires must be betting on games, they can't just be that bad on accident.
@RustBeltSports
@RustBeltSports 5 ай бұрын
It does get frustrating. Obviously umps cannot be perfect but as long as they are consistent with the calls then its fine. Like some umps call the bottom of strike zone lower consistently and thats fine. Its just the wild inconsistency thats matters

The reason i hate basketball is because the officiating is so blatantly subjective and inconsistent. It's not fair to players whose pay gets justified by their stats. When an ump takes the bat out of a hitter's hands, he's taking money out of their pocket. I don't need robo-umps if theres accountability. If umps start losing opportunities when they're consistently screwing up (just like most jobs), they problem will likely fix itself.
@RustBeltSports

I would take the wind in to account at the coin toss at the beginning. Figure out which the wind is blowing, then choose the opposite end. So my team is going against the wind in Quarters 1 and 3, and with the wind in Quarters 2 and 4. So if I need a field goal, long or not, I am not kicking into a wind, stiff or otherwise. It might not come into play, but what I am doing is hedging my bets. If I win the toss, I give up the ball. If they win the toss they either defer to me, or receive the kick. They might take the end I want, but I have a 2 in three chance to get what I want which is an advantage. There is no downside.
@RustBeltSports

Dude had 1 single 300+ yard passing game in 3 years... 6th round for a backup sure but dude is the highest sacked qb in the last 3 years by over 40. He was considered a complete bust and then he had that random 300 yard rushing game in his 2nd year and all the sudden the narrative changed... No team can win with a qb that cant throw and avgs 3.5s in the pocket before throwing which is also the highest in the nfl by almost half a second..
