I find that I have made a comment on this lovely rendition 9 years ago. I was then conscious of how badly we have let ourselves, and Nature, down. Things have got much, much worse. It feels as though we're living in hell! And who is mainly to blame? NOT the European Colonisers - Bishop Reginald Heber was one "who came after" hoping to bring light to my ancestors who, he thought were heathens. He succeeded to an extent. I was born in November 1948; I'm six days older than King Charles III. I resent Charles somewhat because my mother seemed to think that was my greatest claim to be "a nice little brown boy" was eing the same age as Charles. Bishop Heber wrote this hymn in 1819 long before he left Europe. The Wiki entry for him is very long, and tells how impressed he was with Muslim prayer on Ramadhan Day. But the Muslims were worshipping God, but Heber had heard that my ancestors were worshipping stone statues (I guess he knew little of the Buddha Dharma). I hope you get what I mean. We ought to appreciate his sincerity, just as I appreciate the goodness and sincerity of Paul and wife, Jo, in this ten minute video made in April 2023: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJSYk6CmiNyVjdE . If you have the time, please spend an hour on all this. Read about the terrible mess made here by politicians and exacerbated by the selfish aims of the IMF and World Bank. As for me, I still blame ourselves.
