@@SportsTalkTech yes! so was the Diamond league Final worth it? with several not being able to qualify due to Olympics workload etc...Tia's win should of been worth 12 points not 8 ...Those times outside top 2 she would of cruised to @min 3rd ...You gotta wonder after all the workload to get those points Tamari didn't bother ...i think this is where " Grand Slam track" might just hit the mark with greater incentive and paying so the Athlete's can put on a show rather than a sub standard show that was basically building to no-where..which "Diamond has failed...it was a sell out and they get that...people will get frustrated.

I acknowledge that my presentation of Mondo versus Warholm is somewhat pessimistic. While I enjoyed it, I also recognize that it can come off as gimmicky. To be honest, it didn’t excite me in the same way that Michael Johnson versus Donovan Bailey did, but I understand that was almost 30 years ago, and my view was influenced by youthful enthusiasm at the time. Regarding your point about bringing more attention to field events, I believe it’s possible. I can see a path where track fans consume more of the sport, especially since not everyone who follows track and field watches all the events like we do. If we’re going down the road of special or gimmicky events, a Tyreek Hill versus Noah Lyles race-or even other matchups with track athletes-would generate more buzz to expand the audience. You could even have a race featuring athletes like Kyle Walker or Cristiano Ronaldo, which would attract different audiences. If World Athletics and track event organizers can find a way to capture these new audiences and get them to follow track and field regularly, it could be a game-changer for revenue generation.

Scary times. Tebogo is ready to dominate. I want to see both at their best next season.

I think the two of them are mor evenly matched than people are giving Noah credit for. But agree that he may need to drop the double to continue to be competitive in the 200 as we gets into his 30s

It's hard to see Noah doubling come LA Olympics. It’s not impossible, but since he started, he has not gone faster than 19.5 at a major championship. I would like to see Noah skip the 100m next year and we get a proper 200m with him and Tebogo. This is unlikely to happen, though.

I think he can improve in the 200 only because I've heard there has been some neglect to it in training to improve in the 100m as he didn't think he had a rival in the 200....he knows better now

Yup. The landscape has changed. He has some rethinking to do, but it’s great for the sport, and Lyles loves the competition, so I expect him to adjust and respond.

It's been a crucial year for her. She's learning lots of lessons this season, including the Olympic final and travel around Europe… You have to think that if she can consistently run low 10.80s and approaching 10.70s next season, a podium run is in play.

What are your thoughts on the Grand Slam Track League? Do you think it will ultimately force the Diamond League to change its format or even increase the prize money? I’m not sure yet-I’ll have to wait until everything unfolds and all the athletes are signed on. But I wonder if they’ll start to poach some of the biggest stars, which could potentially weaken the Diamond League. Some Diamond League meets rely heavily on attracting big-name athletes, and if those athletes start choosing the Grand Slam instead, how will that affect the Diamond League? Personally, I’m generally in favor of more decentralization, with more high-profile meets. We have a lot of meets at the lower end of the spectrum that give athletes opportunities to compete, but they don’t necessarily offer the same media exposure and financial reward. More high-profile meets could potentially change the sport. But I do wonder if this could also cannibalize efforts to put on really top-class meets. I don’t know, I’m just going to wait and see. What do you think?

@@SportsTalkTech ye not sure if you received my reply but with the concept of "Grand slam track" combining the 100 and 200 together will attract a bigger set of athlete's including College ones going pro sooner than not with 100k winner of each event over 4x a year! plus the bonus is a base salary for all 48 athletes...So i think the Diamond will work around the calendar and also increase prize money....plus Athlete's profile will increase with the bigger exposure and will suit the fast tracking of junior's n mid range senior athlete's who otherise would not get the exposure.

It's going to be interesting. I think you're right that we might see an uptick in athletes going pro, assuming they can secure a lane. As for the Diamond League, compensation is likely to go up, or they could also reduce the number of meets associated with the league to pay more. The real challenge is how they sell the TV/streaming rights-that’s where the real money is. That is still an issue for the Diamond League, and I suspect the Grand Slam Track League will struggle here, at least in the initial years. You need big sponsorships, but sponsors need to see a return on their investment. The Diamond League doesn’t really have an issue with stadium crowds, and even some of the meets on the Continental Tour attract large audiences. To grow the sport, you need TV revenue, and that’s a challenge for sports in general. Track and field, in particular, has a bigger problem in this area. I hope the Grand Slam Track League works, but they need the biggest stars to convert their fans into spenders.

I wouldn’t say the Jamaica Juniors underperformed. There are athletes who could have done better and have performed better in the past, but this is a late season for some of them. It’s difficult to be in peak condition at this time of the year, especially for high school athletes who compete within the Jamaican system. Athletes from other countries also face similar challenges. As a result, you might not see the very best performances, but some top-class athletes still manage to perform at their best. So, I’m not entirely sure it’s something to put much stock into. While it’s always good for juniors to perform well at a major championship, it doesn’t necessarily determine their future. If there’s talent, it’s about whether they can push forward and, in the right environment, develop into a professional.

I expect Alfred to consistently run around 10.7 seconds and get closer to sub-10.7 next year. If she continues to improve in the 200m, she could consistently achieve times in the 10.6 range. I suspect Richardson will be in a similar time range. I don’t think Alfred or anyone else (e.g., Jackson) will be much faster than Richardson, and the differences will likely be marginal. It might come down to race execution. The Olympic champion should start favorite.

I agree. It’s extremely difficult to reach that 19.19 unless conditions are nearly perfect-like having almost a 2.0 meter per second wind on a great night for sprinting. No one is breaking Usain Bolt’s 200-meter record running rounds. It’s just too far out there. While I like Tebogo, I don’t think he has the necessary speed to get there. I appreciate his edurance especially with his capacity to run the 400 meters, and I’ve been saying for a while that he should focus more on the 200/400m. But to reach that type of speed and then maintain it is something I’m not seeing yet. I agree that you’d need to run a blistering curve, which Tebogo might be capable of, but everything would have to align perfectly for WR to happen. I don’t think people truly grasp how outrageous Bolt’s time is. I’m not sure we’ll see it broken in our lifetime. When that times come the 200m will likely go before the 100m.

Yes, it’s likely 3:25.20 for El Guerrouj. That’s why we need to judge these times a bit differently. With the advancements in shoes, track surfaces, sports science, and the introduction of wave light technology, these improvements have significantly impacted performance.

@@SportsTalkTech i think she had to take a step back after everything was very promising ...and now stating she is in rehab seemed to be a bit flat...many are wondering if LSU did not do their homework on her history given her first year was not ideal...But Pro world is knocking ..and i would say 3rd party has offered advice on break out year.

I take your point, and I understand, especially given this past season. We were all expecting Brianna to push for an Olympic spot, the program was supposedly designed for her to excel at the Jamaica National Championships and beyond. But things didn’t go as planned, and she had to end the season early. Honestly, I’m not too worried about it. These things happen-growing pains, injuries, adjustments. I think she adapted well to LSU, despite the challenges. Her best years are still ahead of her. If injuries persist into the next season, that might warrant a different approach, but I believe she still has a promising career ahead. She’s incredibly talented, and LSU has a very good coach. I understand the temptation to go pro, but I don’t think staying in college was a bad decision at all. A lot of athletes turn pro too early and face their own challenges. I think she’s on the right path, and as long as she stays healthy, she’ll live up to her potential.
