Perhaps the Gelfling should have been more hospitable by giving him food-- and a healthy dose of nulroot tea (as long as it is effective against Skeksis). Afterwards, SkekSil might not even remember his own name! 😉

Judging by the effects of essence consumption in the movie, their hair should have gotten darker, and their wrinkles should have been smoothed out. Perhaps SkekTek eventually just got better with his essence refining process and made it stronger.

The Skeksis are also younger than they are by the time of the movie. That probably would make the effects of the essence less visible. Especially since they haven’t built up a dependence on it yet.

Skekvars essence wasn’t tainted, it wasn’t essence at all. It was just water that was made to glow like essence. Harmless in it of itself but putting skekvar at the bottom of the totem pole health wise compared to the other skeksis.
