Awesome piece. I do have to ask, what was the camera critter thinking about during the entire bass solo? You blew it! Otherwise, very cool.

The best rendition of this sweet piece of music. Also his Bossa Dorado (FanchGadjo recorded in 2007) is the best in the world. Strangely not too many views

Merci🕯!

@@johnholland723 I play finger style. I’m 77. I learned at folk festivals, listening to Elizabeth Cotten and Mississippi John Hurt and Gary Davis. I had never even heard of Merle Travis. I did know about Chet Atkins. I did not know about all these other players until six years ago when I started playing with FL snowbirds in a trailer park who come from KY and Indiana and Canada. KZbin has changed my musical life from when I was 13 and buying sheet music at Presser’s in the next town over in PA. Pressers was a sheet music printer and publisher. That used to be a big thing! And record stores with listening booths where you could buy opened records with finger prints on them.

As Merle Travis’ illegitimate son his career path was sort of chosen for him. He wanted to stand out to Merle and carry on the legend begun by the Kennedy Jones “Cannonball Rag”. I have a lovely vid of them playing it together on the same guitar at the same time. A great man. I’m only alive because of him. I still have the fifty year old guitar he left in my hospital. I’ll never let it go.
