This is the first language I've seen this song rhymes, other than English of course. I'm so disappointed when the Italian or French poetry goes nowhere! This is such a beautiful song, still. In fact, the whole soundtrack is pretty awesome.

This version is perfect. German is usually associated with anger ( pretty obvious as to why ). However, Latin sounds poetic. Beautiful... Angelic. I like to imagine that the voice of Frollo, with audible hate, anger and torment in it, represents Hell taking over Frollo. He's fighting a losing battle. The angelic voices, they would be the angels from God. I know people say it's the voice of the priests, and it's certainly the archdeacon singing in the beginning. But once Frollo starts to sing, the voices seem to... react to what he's saying. I think it's more than irony. The Voice of God tries to help Frollo. It sounds calm and angelic, and it seems to want to make Frollo want to acknowledge his sins and repent. Example: ( Translated to English ): Beata Maria, the sinners, I DESPISE them! I'm of a different, better stamp! ( Because I sinned all too much ). My interpretation: God directly contradicts Frollo, telling him he has sinned more than the " sinners ", at which he looks with hate and disgust ( the German singer is GREAT at the way he portrayed Frollo by the way). However, his anger cannot be contained anymore. It kept building up slowly from the beginning ( sounding relatively calm ) to the end, where he is completely filled with wrath. ( " DECAY Esmeralda, and let her SCREAM in agony ) - 2:10 ( " Whatever. Out with YOU! I will find her. And if I have to set the whole Paris on FIRE! ) - 2:31 When he starts the second part of Hellfire, he lets his anger take over him. That's why you should never make decisions when you're mad. He has sold his soul to Lucifer, and his new Master is laughing in irony at his new servant to do his bidding for him. If you somehow read all of this, I love Hellfire ( I'm a nerd 🤓 ).

I guess what makes this work, is that the German words for man and husband are the same - Mann Same goes for the words for woman and wife - Frau So technically, in German, we say "I have got a man"/"I have got a woman" instead of "I have got a husband/wife". Now, if it's important to clarify that you're talking about your partner, and not some other person, and also on more formal occasions, we add the German word for 'the status of being married to someone' : "Ehe" So in those cases you'd say "Ehemann" and "Ehefrau" instead of "Mann" and "Frau" To put it simply : the ambigiouity of the word "Mann" really helps this song and gives it a lot of freedom of interpretation.

I really like your translation. Nice work! As a German native speaker, the only part I think did not translate well was the word "lichterloh". You translated it with "ablaze". But "to be ablaze" is more the translation of "brennen/brennt", and "lichterloh" is an adjective that describes in more detail how to be ablaze/to burn. "Lichterloh brennen" is more like "to burn brightly". As a German speaker I always found this to be far stronger than the original "she will burn", because he not only wants to see her burn, he wants to see her burn brightly! Its just so vicious. Otherwise, as I said, great job!

There's something a bit ominous about a bunch of disembodied German voices singing "heil Aurora," though that's probably because there's something a bit ominous about hearing the word "heil" in general, considering the context it's typically used in

Depending on when Sleeping Beauty was supposed to be set in, it's entirely possible that she could have spoken/sang in French. Remember, French was the language of the court and the elite. Still, the German is a lovely rendition.
