This is definitely one of those gigs that I wish I could say I was at. The flashpoint of GREATNESS. I know I would've realized it in that very moment--you have to remember that NOTHING like this was being played at that time. It was all heav metal BULLSHIT, at least it was in the states.

What made it nice was no cell phones or internet.. You had to go find bands and songs at the record store. It was just a totally different world. Not sayin better or worse ,but it is hard to explain how different it was.

"This song was only performed live once on 1 October 1985, at Eden Court in Inverness, on the final day of their 1985 Scotland tour. A piano was found on stage during soundcheck and the venue management refused to move it off stage. Morrissey performed the song and by the end of it was centre stage in a foetal position"

If I was at this gig , it would’ve blown my mind! What v incredible riffs right out of the gate. And Moz is nearly fully formed but no one In the audience knows the songs yet or what lays in store for The Smiths after this gig.

My first exposure to the Smiths was Hatful of Hollow on cassette - liked them straightaway - but then I could hear the lyrics. If it had been at this concert, What difference & Handsome Devil, and Morrissey himself would definitely have captured my attention but I could have easily missed a lot of the lyrics and musicality. Songs all sounded different which would have been a plus, just together with the energy I hope I would have clocked them as having huge potential. But I wasn’t there and will never know. (And I once turned down a flat in Whalley Range because of the Miserable Lie lyric. 😂)

It was, yeah I think it was Andy's first gig if I'm not mistaken too which is mad. They're my favourite band. They are huge in the states too, in LA they have a Morrissey day haha

Well that's a quirky list (Unloveable at ten ?) but each to their own . I have been listening to this group for so long but my top 10 has never really changed in all that time : Hand in Glove ( Hatful version) , Stop Me, Headmaster , Bigmouth , Queen Is Dead , That Joke , Old House ( Hatful version) , There is a Light , A Rush and a Push (we agree !) and Unhappy Birthday . The worst stuff they produced is on the debut album , the best comes later.
