Does dharma come first or do people come first; people come first, people come first. So texts describe kind of visualisations, some people can visualise very easily, some people have lots of dreams and can remember their dreams, other people don't visualise, they don't have any visual images that arise in their mind. If you, as always with these things, if you make a vertical axis and we think this is what I should be able to do but I can't do what I should be able to do, you have an abasement, you are denigrated, you are lowered and this is not helpful in anyway. So we read the text and it could be very useful if I can access it, but as I am I don't access it and therefore it is irrelevant for me. Because if you put it on the crown of your head it will shrink you and we have already had enough people in our life shrinking us. So we take the vertical axis and we bring it down and it is a horizontal open plane and these are possibilities. So if this pathway is not going to work for you, you can do another pathway. That's why the buddha taught 84,000 dharmas...dharma is a buffet, choose what to eat and choose enough not to make you too fat - James Low

So in this practice of the guru yoga of the white A, guru here means your original nature. The guru is the truth, or if you like in terms of the two truths, it is the absolute truth and the yoga means to join in the naturalness of the guru. In Tibetan yoga is naljor, nal natural but especially relaxed at ease, jorwa, to join, to release yourself into the ease with being at one with the guru, that's the function of guru yoga - James Low

Too much thinking makes the world very, very stale. That's why we have a saying english 'someone can know the price of everything and the value of nothing' because your so used to calculating how this relates to that and that and that and it takes you away from the immediacy of 'this is precious because it touches me' - James Low

'I don't have to perform to meet your expectations' that is a huge, huge freedom. Where we say 'you are free to think of me whatever you like, like me, don't like me, be interested, not be interested, I don't need to think about you'. Why, because my thoughts about you don't reach you. You are not who I think you are. Is that true. Therefore if I am thinking about what you think of me this is called semantic masturbation. It is non-connective, it doesn't produce anything, it's self referential because I don't actually know how you are in this moment and how you would be if you were able to respond openly and easily to how I am as I take myself to be. So this is all saying all these scripts you have learned, all these storylines that have been fed to you in the course of your education in some ways they are pathways of connectivity, they open doors, they allow you to operate in the world but if you take them seriously you become enslaved by what you take to be the expectation of others - James Low

I’m a James fan, but he often makes anti-conservative comments. I don’t think he’s ever spoken against the socialists (who actually are destroying Britain and the USA with their policies). It takes real money to buy groceries and gas (much more affordable under the Trump policies).

When I was at a Rinzai Zen monastery they had me sit with extreme pain and my legs would be so asleep when the meditation ended I had no sensation below the knee. They place a lot of emphasis on no movement at all and to just 'be' the pain. I learned to sit with excruciating pain. I sit Soto Zen now, and they are much more relaxed about following your body's signals and moving if you have to. Hearing the story at 4:27:00 brought this back to me. I could have really damaged my legs sitting like I did. I think sitting with mild pain can be useful, but only to a point. You should always listen to your body.

There is no "Judeo-Christian" tradition. There is the Christian tradition with its many facets and varieties and which draws upon Jewish writings, and there is the Jewish tradition with its many facets and varieties. Why conflate the two? It's intellectually lazy.

That why in the dzogchen tradition and the mahamudra they say 'just be cheerful', which sounds a bit like stupid advice but whatever happens don't worry, don't take it too seriously. Because what it's doing it's speaking to us on an ordinary level, when we can’t meditate and we feel really fucked up and we're lost and we're confused at least put on a smile, because if you smile other people will smile and it will cheer you up. Because if you go into the depths, if you start cutting groove into yourself and the record repeats and repeats you get a trapped feeling. 'I don't know what to do, I'm stuck' and that's a terrible situation, how could you be stuck when everything is impermanent and dynamic and moving - James Low

James, so in my case Im too commited to helping others/sacrifising myself, esp those who are deepest in suffering, denial and also done me wrong. But to take a vow and tie it to an outcome of their descision, we either start forcing/seducing them in subtle ways or we wait forever before we detach. Im more loyal towards others then my own freedom but its gotten to a point it might make me sick. Its also the avoidance of guilt because when I am spoken through its often a breaking down of identity and in some this can cause narcisitic collaps for example. Then you are left with a desperate utterly dependent inner child who feels again, and admit they want light and leave behind their ways but also has no hope or confidence in themselves to be strong enough to not be selfish. What to do, or better: how to view this. I know I see my freedom as a threat to these people because of the immense desperation they most often chose even deeper denial and become more selfish, they cant invision a way out so shut down completely and become numb more to bear that. This is not the best for all. How can I include both myself and them? It cannot be I have to sacrifise myself for all eternity when they dont want to look at themselves. I feel I will become sick if I longer refuse to be the open door. Its my deepest desire to awaken myself and others but I dont want to leave the ones who are most lost behind. I was willing to sacrife my freedom and fullfilment if its in the best interest of them because objectively they are off so much worse. I put myself in prison and stay silent, restrict myself from relaxing and expressing, but that willingness is shifting now so I wonder if there is any way to look at this wich can set me free more? Maybe I have been manipulated, it cannot be my responsibility what they chose but that is what I hear when you speak about the example of the vow taken by a Buddha to stay until all beings are freed. edit: I just read about diffrent kinds of courage and one is to look at what is holding you prison, to do what is right for all but the third is to be yourself without value judgement (I dont want to harm). Im clearly lacking in the third and maybe too much of the second so Im trying to use the first

If you have relaxation you have integration, that why in dzogchen in particular we focus on relax and release. We're not trying to build up better self, to build up clarity, to build up insight, we're allowing the carapace, the shell of obscurity, of self referential closedness to fall away, to thin and dissolve until the openness, which was always there, is clear for us. We have been obscured in a shell, the shell is formed by the creatures that make shells by their own secretions. This is us, we secrete thoughts, feelings, sensations and they adhere to us, they are sticky, this is attachment - James Low

Thank you so much for this James and channel fairies if there are any. I can't say how much I appreciate it. I have been studying Buddhism for a while now, mainly theravada but for the last while I have been deep into zen and the last few months into Dzogchen. It's much harder to break into I have found and having Teachers such as yourself who say it plainly and for everyone is invaluable. I would love to join a retreat if one comes up near me so I'm keeping an eye on your website. I wish you a long life. If anyone has any other teachers they could recommend I would appreciate it. I have found Lama Lena is great so far. Thanks my friends.
