Hi just want to thank you for your video. It was thorough, step-by-step, well explained really appreciate it! Just the filter at one Toyota dealer charged $175. I ordered it on Amazon with gasket and O-ring exact fit $26! And for reference dealer orders it aftermarket, third-party as well. Not even OEM. Dealers are such a rip offs on every level nowadays.

Ah there's a fixed tube on inside of pan! Now i know why only 1.7qts drains lol. CVT belt system does create a bit sludge on pan bottom/magnets. Filter probably gets sludged up too. The drain plug method is a decoy to make you think you are taking care of your car!😂

The music makes it hard to hear some things you are saying. Also if no dipstick how do you know when level is correct. in video you added and then drained some and did not show how you figured out proper level of fluid

Huh! MY toyota dealer said the trans is sealed and they just suck out the old and put in new. And they want to charge me $400. This obviously looks more correct to me.

Without dropping the pan, you don't drain all that much of the total amount of the transmission fluid and leave all the gunk in the bottom. The drain plugs on most vehicles are NOT at the very bottom, so you don't drain much out. ON Normal automatics the majority is in the tork convertor , so It is important to remove that too. All automatics or CVTs should have this done at regular intervals for max life of the car.

I have 170,000mi on my 2015 corolla. I brought it to the dealership at 107k miles to have the CVT fluid replaced and they refused, saying it could do more harm than good. Now, I'm thinking of replacing the fluid on my own, but only doing 1/3 of the fluid at a time over say 3 months just to ease the CVT into its new fluid. I think doing it this way could help eliminate any issues. What do you think?

I spent a couple weeks collecting the tools I'd need to do a fluid drain and fill on my 2015 Corolla. My one bit of advice is to do it when the transmission is unquestionably cold. Get the car into a level spot and leave it there, then do the drain and fill in the morning. That will greatly reduce the chances of under filling the transmission, which is easy to do. You also don't need this pump apparatus. A small funnel and a couple feet of 1/2" vinyl tubing works great.

if done like this can we just replace same amount which came out and be done with it? ... so no overfill check needed ?
@jshepard152
@jshepard152 4 ай бұрын
@@thronemovie9035 Some people do that. It's not the method I used but I see the logic of it. The one downside is that if the transmission were low on fluid when you started, it would still be low when you're finished. The temperature check procedure is overly complicated but doable.

How can I find out the transmission fluid temp if I don't have an advanced scan tool?
@petert696
@petert696 Жыл бұрын
To get the majority of the fluid to be new, it would be best to do this process 3-4 times consecutively in order to flush out. Correct me if I'm wrong otherwise you would be left with 2 thirds of the old fluid still in the trans.
@jshepard152
@jshepard152 Жыл бұрын
You're exactly correct. Most people get about 2.5 quarts out of 7 drained per service, so about 35%. Still, most people seem to agree that doing that change every 60k miles is sufficient. You could always overachieve.

The scanner doesn't cut it. It has to go into the fluid sense mode. You have to jump the OBD port

Maybe you need to get a bigger scanner. A code reader is not the same as a bi directional scanner... but for the everyday man... yes the ODB2 jumper is the way to go.

Constant contact with automotive fluids can cause cancer. Your body absorbs these fluids through your skin. Nitrite type gloves can protect your future health. Like smoking , it doesn't kill people fast enough to make all mechanics take proper care. Treat these fluids as though they were all sulfuric acid. You'll automatically be more careful. Take good care.

I saw the fluid in the container that you initially drained, but there was a lot of other fluid that came out after that -- was that also dumped into the same container, because it didn't look like it? If not the fluid fill would be short.

I am so glad never to have had a car that I have to take a wheel off of to change a fluid. To me that is just absurd!! I know some Toyotas, Nissans and maybe others have the oil filter in the wheel well behind a panel and because of that you have to take the wheel off to get to the dang thing. Did they do this to make people want to maintain their own vehicles less? Look at Merceds and BMW, they were kind enough to put the filters up on top so you can get to them a lot easier.
