Kinky sure as hell made his life a great art project. I was verbally attacked by the Kinkster in person at the Highline club way out on north Lamar long ago. I froze at the insult and he got a small laugh from the folks. He then insulted a women by dumping a glass of beer on her in the audience who then walked up and toss a pitcher of beer on the man and the crowd roared it's approval ! Kinky laughed it off, it was back when living in Austin was pure gold day in and day out 40 years ago.

Del is just a class act. He was kind of a bluegrass outlaw in the 60’s and 70’s but he’s a family man 100%

As a casual listener and not someone who was taught music theory in school, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis and Coltrane made some of the most boring, dull, uninteresting music I've heard. Maybe they are the best when it comes to technically making music, but I don't think that translates to the best or most appealing music to listen to.

I love Del! I didn't remember if he was featured in the many East Coast festivals I attended in the late 70's mid 80's. But found him maybe later on CD at Boarders in early 2000's

I think there's a flawed premise underlying most of what he's saying here Traut Mask replica sold about a thousand records at the time It has a million views on KZbin How many people would have listened to Everything at the End of Time in the 70s? 34 million on KZbin These are not perfect comparisons for dozens of reasons, but I do think they largely still undermine the point he's making People do seek out mind blowing experiences, uncomfortable music, all sorts of different things And people resisted those things all throughout the history of pop What do you think the Bee Gees were? Or all the boring ass sophistipop of the 80s? (Though I'll still rock a little Sade every once in a while) Is pop stagnant? I don't know. I mean, we're probably not going to get another Laurie Anderson any time soon, but pop is definitely more interesting now than it was 20 years ago. But Pop is also just far less relevant than it every was, precisely because if you want to listen to Beefheart, you can just do that now I think more people are looking for more interesting and creative experiences than ever before. It's just that there's so much creative output, both contemporary and historical, all more or less free and available, that no one is going to become bigger than Jesus doing this stuff anymore, because we are divided. And while there are downsides to that, I don't know how it can be seen as a shift toward the conservative.
