I took a ceramics class and tried to make pottery. I was not good at it. All my stuff looked terrible. I had to realize I had no talent at all in the craft and was never going to get better. This guy makes it look effortless.

A concept important to civilisation is the dignity of work. Automation has taken away much of that and alienation often takes its place

Wow, I love the clever way you make the bottom foot square. I'm looking forward to doing that and also your swirl. One of my favorite of your pieces that I've seen has a wonderful swirl and I had wondered how you do that.

Humanity definitely is in a process of slow degradation. It took one guy + 12 to build one wood oven. I wonder how long did it take? I bet not less than a month.

Mark, phenomenal instruction! There is a lot to take from this video. One thing I loved was the absence of a splash guard and the inclusion of the sponge to catch the drips. Genius! I have always loved this type of foot, now I know how. Thanks! The swirl adds movement to what would otherwise be a somewhat static piece. Beautiful! The only thing I didn't love about the video was the music. I like jazz, and the music itself is not bad at all, but this is an issue I have about a lot of tutorial videos: music that doesn't quite fit. As a potter and an artist, I love the process. Part of the process, for me (and possibly others), is the sounds of making art, be it the scratch of a pencil, the squish of paint, or the beloved hum of my potters wheel. I do listen to music while I throw, but the mood I am in determines the music I play. I've watched another potter youdanxxx progress through his videos. He's a shy guy and was uncomfortable about speaking during his videos. His viewers encouraged him and he stopped putting music in and began using a little bit of dialogue. He still keeps his videos short. (unlike Leech, God love him, he's brilliant but so long winded. I don't always have time to watch a 30 minute rambling tutorial. And, he recently started bilingual videos. I am a fan, but fast forward is a friend!)(sort of like my review, eh?) Anyway, I think I've made my point and given the reason behind it. This is more of a constructive criticism so I can selfishly enjoy your videos even more. Ain't I a gem? Hah! Cheers! Please keep the videos coming, regardless of what music you include or not. I will be watching!
@Flush2wice7 жыл бұрын
Lora, Thanks for your kind comment. The reason I chose to leave out dialogue is because I believe the process of making the pot speaks for itself. When I teach workshops, I talk a lot. I explain everything I'm doing and why. These KZbin videos are different. I just want people to watch the process. It shows the natural rhythm without interruption.
@berneemartin43836 жыл бұрын
Mark, most of the time your printed comments are enough to explain everything along with the visual image. I'd love to attend one of your workshops sometime. You have the most amazing fluid natural rhythm when you are working - I especially loved it when watching your video on making a scalloped rim.
