Me sitting here watching this game and getting antsy and jumping up yelling Roll Tide. I was 10 years old and still remember watching this game back then. 49 years ago. I am laughing at myself knowing how old this game is yet it still revs me up!! It was such a huge deal for Bama to play here in the new Super Dome. Just brings back so many great memories watching football with my dad.

I watched Paul Thompson play live several times when he played for Tulane. He was special and he had a long career after his 3 years in the NBA. I was also fortunate to see another great Tulane player, John "Hot Rod" Williams play as well. I only recently learned that he is no longer with us here on Earth after passing away due to cancer. He was also tremendous and had a long NBA career. Both were 2 all-time greats for the Tulane "Green Wave!"

I attended this Sugar Bowl when I was 13 years old. Met the Coach Bryant in the hotel lobby the day before the game. Got into the elevator and realized I was standing next to Coach Paterno and two Penn State players the day of the game. They were headed to the pep rally before the game.

Good opportunity for Syracuse to come down South and play a southern power. To their credit they represented themselves well in losing a close one.

If he had went to UNC, he may have had a couple of National Championships, and a great career.

I LOVE these old films. But truth is a good modern high school program could beat either of these two teams by 3 TDs. Passing stats were like 2 for 14 with 7 interceptions. Just a different era.

Pathetic football. Lsu had no clue on how to get any offense and Ole Miss wasn't that much better. Honestly today's Kentucky football team would blast either by 40.

@corym83584 ай бұрын
Ole Miss was the best team in the nation that year even though they finished #2 in the polls. They were cheated out of the #1 AP final ranking because the AP took their final poll prior to the bowls. Minnesota was put at #1 even though they lost 2 games including their bowl game.

@johnbarkleybabygirl32Ай бұрын
@@thebreadreport9841 I think it largely had to do with intergration in the SEC vs Big 8 at the time. Mizzou (ironically) went 6-5 but beat Bama because Mizzou had more black players than most SEC teams had at the time. Bear Bryant credited Dan Devine for making the realization after the ‘68 Gator Bowl beat down that Alabama needed more black players to compete at the highest level.
