Can you tie a size 10 hook sexy walts worm with peacock curl legs with large bead any bead you like
@SUflyfshn-YTАй бұрын
Well I could, however the issue is the peacock legs will be very fragile, tearing after the first fish. But definitely can definitely do that. Would you like the legs through the sexy waltz or at the front?

Egg is life
@SUflyfshn-YT8 ай бұрын
Honestly. Every comp I do everyone, including the top guys in the nation, start with, or immediately switch to, an egg. Just want these stupid fish to hit the size 20 nymph, that has 13 different materials on it and took me 30-40 minutes to tie. EAT IT! But noooo, the egg that takes 30 secs to tie, is it.

@SUflyfshn-YT8 ай бұрын
So for my dry dropper I use a 9’ 4wt RL Winston pure with a Ross animas reel and for my euro set up is a 10’ 2wt diamondbacks ideal nymph with a sage ESN reel. Honestly great set ups but the leader/tip up prolly is just as important, planning on doing a video explaining comp stuff. After my comp in April/May
@justinjohnson77568 ай бұрын
Gotcha, I recently got a 3 wt because my goal going forward is to do a lot more mountain streams for natives. In my area it is mainly brookies anyway.
@creekninjasfishing90368 ай бұрын
Something to think about when practicing. Almost every one of those hooksets you set with the dry dropper/indicator rig, you set the hook the wrong direction. Always set downstream no matter what, if you set up river you will miss way more fish than you want to, especially in a comp situation when fish are eating faster than usual from the fishing pressure, trout face into the current set the hook into them not away from them, hopefully that’ll help you out some. A lot of people do it but it’s one of the biggest mistakes I see anglers make all across the board
@SUflyfshn-YT8 ай бұрын
Jacob!!! I very much agree, and yes it is something I definitely need to work on. Unfortunately this is a lesson I learned the hard way down at the Soque, and I dropped half the fish I hooked because of it. I agree, It’s something I don’t think a lot of people think of. And I really didn’t until someone pointed it out during the end of the first day. It is just something unless you get it pointed out to you, you just don’t pay attention too most times. It’s something I still struggle with being conscious of. Just need to make it a point to do consistently, over and over again, until it’s muscle memory. I very much appreciate the comment!

Love the videos like always! A tough day on the water was yesterday actually. Made my way through a popular stream in the Shenandoah park, and I knew this stream has been pounded lately. Biggest lesson I learned was remaining focused on getting rid of as much drag on dry flies as I can. With as much pressure that water has had lately I knew if I can put a huge emphasis on that it was going to be good.

You think the 10' 1wt DB would be a good option for this local stream? I have a 10' 2wt Douglas DXF I use there but thinking about getting a DB. Either the 10' 1wt or 10' 2wt or the 10'10' 2wt and using that one for the tailwaters as well.
@SUflyfshn-YT9 ай бұрын
I have seen the 1wt DB do very well there especially with the super light takes the big fish often do, due to pressure, plus the tippet protection on the rods are phenomenal. Caught the bigger fish on 7x and didn’t break it off at the strike. The 10’ 10” 2wt is a hoot on tail-waters. The reach is fantastic for a the larger bodies of water.
