Amazing to see so many elderly people dancing ... it must be due to Scott's Porridge Oats 😂 How do tgey remember all the steps in gge correct order ?? I'd probably cause utter chaos and mayhem because my memory is like a sieve !!

I adored this Dance and Tune since the first time I saw / heard it. No surprise to discover, as I have just done a mo ago, that the Band was led by Iain MacPhail. One of those, where each Dancer has to have done his or her homework, if irreparable chaos is to be avoided.

Good to see the reel being danced by a set of men ... as it was devised. But oh, those feet.

Passing let shoulder is what makes this dance special, otherwise it is too much like" Pelourus Jack"
@elizabethghent194
@elizabethghent194 3 жыл бұрын
Mairi’s Wedding was published way before Pelorus Jack and right shoulder pass has always been popular at least in Scotland for as far back as I can remember.

Nicely done. But some people were dancing Mairi's Wedding while others were dancing Mairi's Divorce. (Passing left or right shoulder at the half reels).

I love the variation at 0:13 by the third couple in the left-hand set closest to the camera. Now I know what to do when otherwise third couple is standing about like a couple of fence posts!

Well done to the last couple, they seem to have found an elegant solution for getting the 2nd reel in sync. I have not seen that done before, but will definitely be using it in the future.

@kilteddave Have a look at the comment I posted. Jim McLeod drew up the arrangement and recorded this in about 1986 or so. He called the tune The Stone Mountain Reel. Jan

@janl0254 12 жыл бұрын
The music was first recorded in about 1986 by Jim McLeod and his band who were at the Hydro in Dunblaine. Jim and his band came to the Stone Mountain Highland Games for many years, playing this tune for the dancers at the Tattoo. It was a particular favorite with American audiences and dancers. Whille not traditional Scottish tunes, we are a world-wide group, and this is a really fund tune to dance to. Jan in Atlanta

I'm sorry but who said it was normal. It was dance in an evening of dances and it was one that was captured on film. It was to show how fun Scottish Country Dancing can be - it is not all stuck up as some people would have us believe. I am, however, indebted to you for giving me the names of the tunes.
