I've been looking for Armadale gala days from 1971 onwards as my family were brought up and stayed there for years 😆

I believe it was an old prison camp Yup, was sent there as a teenager. The best thing was cocoa and unlimited jam sarnies in the evening.

Iwads there for two weeks in the 1970's. I called it the prison camp. The only good thing about it was the real hot chocolate amd jam piece at night time. I used to sleep with my eyes open (still do) so I woke up one day with my mates poking me with sticks, to see if I was really dead. Still around and I still sometimes sleep with my eyes open. :-)

Stayed here in 1974 for four weeks with schools from Lanarkshire. Our school was from shotts. We were taught by Australian student teachers who gave us sports lessons including rugby and cross country. We had many trips to Edinburgh zoo, north Berwick edinburgh castle etc. highlights wer watching Sparticus films on old movie projectors in the assembly hall. Sleeping in the old huts at night in old bunk beds was always a laugh

I was there in either 1961 or 1962. Had a reasonably good time. Made friends with pupils from other schools around Scotland. Visited such wonderful places as the Grangemouth Oil Refinery.

precious memories. Notice how everyone got dressed up in their best for the Gala Day ... everyone's having a great time and not a fairground ride in sight! Magic!
