Only thing I’d add is the poll was largely inspired by the amount of people playing 2006scape (private server) at the time. There were around 4000~ playing the server at any one time and people were in the process of paying money for membership

Growing up I always knew about neopets, but I was never really into it. I did find this video pretty interesting, good job.

I've actually never played RS3. I had stopped playing it before the EOC incident and by the time I wanted to the return to RS, OSRS already existed so I've just been playing that. All the gameplay I've seen of RS3 just doesn't interest me in the slightest and the P2W is pretty bad.

something I don't see mentioned in these kinda videos is the change in quest tone between the two. I just started OSRS as my first runescape game ever a month ago and I REALLY love how your character is just some idiot always getting in way over their head. in RS3 they seem to have undone this and changed you into a "chosen one" and gets way more serious, which IMO is very boring. even new OSRS quests still have this same "you are a bumbling idiot" tone and feeling and I love it. by far the most interesting and funny quest dialogue I've ever read in an MMO

Right now, RS3 is killing it with 84,109 players online, while Old School is holding strong at 68,524 as of 7:37 AM CST. Gotta admit, necromancy has really pumped up RS3's numbers, but who knows if it's just a phase? I've seen both hitting a steady 150k recently, and honestly, it's like different strokes for different folks. I personally juggle between the two to make the most of my membership perks. Hitting 300k online players between both games is insane, especially when you remember the days Jagex was barely scraping 50k. They've come a long way, giving other modern MMOs a run for their money. Big shoutout to the consistent quality of life updates in both games. RS3's learning from its mistakes, ditching that annoying hero pass thing. And hey, they're spicing up the combat again - can't wait to see what they pull off. Overall, both games are in a pretty sweet spot right now. Massive player base, regular updates, they communicate through discord for customer service apparently? They ditched the forums which honestly I think is completely fine. Only thing I want is to be able to have a third party client for RS3 and everything would pretty much be equal in my eyes. Alt1 Toolkit is awesome and everything but I want to have 250+ plugins for insane customization options.

Do you really have to get all ur skills to 99? Well to me. Im so lazy to do all. So I would just grind money. Im a hill giant killer. Im trying to get 99 level of cooking in order to use the bank in the cooking guild in my membership account. Because i want to get loots from hill giants to deposit at the cooking guild i dont want to walk 5 min to the grand exchange to deposit. And also I hope my next life I want to play this game again in recommendation on internet. So I dont want to die when im having fun. Im a big runescape nerd now. xD Do you feel the same?

Blew my mind when Jagex announced RS3. Makes no sense making the game like wow when everyone played it for what it was

I dunno it's really simple for me. In OSRS the skill level I have I got from grinding. In RS3 the mere fact that I know I can pay $10,000 and instantly max makes grinding seem like a fools errand - and grinding is literally what RS is all about. This fact alone makes RS3 pointless to me. If the game stayed exactly the same, but removed XP buffs and pots/dummies I'd absolutely play it over OSRS.

As someone who plays both, I think comparing player counts isn’t an accurate representation on activity. Lots of places on osrs are just absent of any players which is kind of crazy since there’s so many more players. Bots rule osrs tbh.

One days I got online and they introduced real world money to buy in game currency. Everyone had a cool NeoPet all dressed up. It made me quit the game. What’s the point saving up for a Royal Brush if you can just buy a cool cosmetic

OSRS players remind them, because they lost accounts they were building for around a decade, and had to start all over. Also as stated in the video, much of what was appealing to Runescape players was that it wasn't like any other MMO. Watching Jagex self sabotage and consistently commit slow suicide was a painful experience. Just the fact they have bounced back seems like necromancy.

I'm 39 now and it was fun watching the site grow into this vibrant and lively community. Internet connection drop out during keyquest? Too bad because your name was already plastered on the neoboard for cheating.😂 Using your pet pages for guild activities that you coded all on your own. Saving up for the Secret Lab Map in the hope of getting the neopet of your dreams! I had the "Macy Gray" Kau in the beginning (that account is long gone). So many wonderful memories🩷 Now it's a shell of what it once was and I doubt kids are on the internet looking for games nowdays any way. It's the adults that are clinging on.

Runescape is unique, other games tried to replicate the same simple style with varying degrees of success, but none did it like Runescape. Everything from how ewsy it is to grasp to how difficult it is to master, the death mechanic, the community, the way you engage with the game, it has a certain something that is hard to put into words. I've played tons of other games, mmo, fps, rpgs, single players, co-ops... i have thousands of hours on various different games throughout my life. No game does it like Runescape, no game ever will. If there is ever a day when the servers are permanently forced to close then it'll be the darkest day in video game history.

I rememeber when i made my original pets in 1999 or 2000 (9 years old) I chose the flying eyeball with wings and named him "Fleye" thinking i was being clever. They updated that one into some dragonfly creature, and now I was stuck with a dragonfly named "Fleye". Fucking stupid.

I'm a newbie and decided to play old school over 3 because of all the videos I've seen about Runescape have been in old school. Plus I like the old artstyle, very charming.

even the complexity of habbo has been correctly carried out today in the user experience in neopets once you enter today you don't know it... it's a shame I feel that my inner child from 2008 is still trapped wanting to play their games favorites without flash player hahaha .. Hopefully in a few years I can have the same experience I loved key quest it was the best

If I hear runescape then the first things that come to my mind are Rune 2-handed sword and priest robes. That adrenaline rush when PKing.

tbh the reason osrs is still going because of bots. it wouldn't have as much players without them and osrs would drop in pop. people on WoW and OSRS having been using that as a real JOB. if this were to stop the numbers would drop fast. ive seen it on many games. its just that OSRS is almost the most botted game ever. so it would take a while but yea it would be nowhere near where it is is if it werent for the Bots filling up servers.

Been playing since I was 12 and in foster care, gave me the escape I needed. Now i'm 29 and still playing. There's no MMO quite like RuneScape. I legit mowed lawns and actually mailed in my membership. I feel like games like WoW Classic could learn a lot from OSRS, instead of the same exact game from 2007, build upon it and respect players opinions while keeping the classic, or old school feel.

I'm so sick of morons with absolutely no idea what they're talking about making videos about how RuneScape 3, a game they don't know and don't play, is apparently so bad that it was basically the end of the world for y'all. Grow up and join me in the year 2023 some time. Even in this god-awful video, you admit you didn't give the game a fair shot. You rage quit after Tutorial Island ffs. The Reddit comment you highlighted is calling out people like you specifically. Also, there was no "master reset" of anything. RS3 is a direct continuation of RuneScape, meaning OSRS was created as the spinoff option. RS3 is neither the newer version nor a separate entity. It is just RuneScape and every account made before 2013 is still there. I don't know why this confuses OSRS purists, but it was never necessary or expected of anyone to start over again. That is just an option.
