Thanks for sharing! Glorious views! My son i and i are trying to decide between going back to black balsam knob/graveyard fields to hike this fall which is amazing or going to grassy ridge bald where we have never hiked before.
@adventuringinthemoment10 күн бұрын
Awe man that is a tough call. I love Black Balsam Knob! The views are incredible and during the fall there is nothing like it. I love Roan Mountain but they both are so good, I've never been able to hike Graveyard Fields but I have seen it many times. Good luck on your decision but know that you can't really go wrong with either choice. Thanks for watching and enjoy the hike with your son!

Thanks for the video, i lived in shady valley as a kid. My favorite place on earth. My mothers great grandmother was full blood Cherokee and her diary spoke of a hidden cave by backbone rock she would go to so she could be alone when she was a kid. I live in florida now but id like to find that cave one day.

Whoa, that is one of the coolest stories! It reminds me of the Cherokee legends of the cave the giant lived in around the Devils Courthouse off the Blue Ridge Parkway. I didn't see a cave when I was there, but how cool is that!

Thanks that is good information to know. I figured the road would close from time to time around large amounts of rain or in this case grading. It should be a nice smooth ride up for you once it is all done though. Enough the adventure.

Your video inspired me to take the trail today. I’ve lived here in roan mountain for years and never hiked it. Used to be a big guy, 420 pounds and lost a significant amount of weight and decided to treat myself today. It was fun, fairly easy for a beginner like me but with all the rain we’ve had as of late, some part’s definitely got a little tricky and slick! Seeing the mine up close was awesome as well as various mushrooms and such.

I have a question, is the Rocky River Gorge free, or you have to pay? Thanks!
@adventuringinthemoment2 ай бұрын
The Kancamagus Highway is free to drive but there is a $5 day pass for parking. So if you plan on making these stops along the drive including the Rocky River Gorge, you will have to have the $5 day pass.
@st-lucia2 ай бұрын
@@adventuringinthemoment oh I see. Free to drive, day pass for parking. If you could still remember, do the Glen Ellis Falls and Cathedral Ledge also operate on the same system, or you had to pay separately as well? Thanks!
@adventuringinthemoment2 ай бұрын
@@st-lucia Yes, so Glen Ellis Falls never required any type of parking pass when we have gone, but Cathedral Ledge had a small fee as well. I did that a different time then the Kancamagus Highway so I am not sure if this is just a day pass for all of the parking areas in the White Mountains National Forest or not. I do know that you can pay for Cathedral Ledge when you go to Echo Lake State Park which is at the foot of Cathedral Ledge and the state park system would be different then the national forest. So long story short it will be a minimal fee if anything to go to all of those places, and are all pretty easily assessable in one day too. I hope that clears things up for you.

@adventuringinthemoment3 ай бұрын
You know I am not really sure about the mileage to the waterfall. AllTrails isn't super specific about where the waterfall is but we didn't continue the trail beyond the waterfall. If I were to guess I would say maybe a little over a mile to get to the waterfall and then about a little over a mile back so round trip tops maybe 2 and a half miles.

I appreciate the feed back we started noticing how some of the music seemed to distract from the overall story we are trying to tell, which is all about getting your family outside. So in later videos we started to dial back the volume of the music and we have been working to pick better song choices that fit the theme of the video better.
