I trained with Moses Powell for a little while. I'm not going to take away from maybe his martial arts skills, but one thing about that system and the other offshoots of that system is they need organization very very desperately. The only thing they have in common is they all just teach off of the top of their heads. You can't really build on a system that has no organization. When you just have students come in and you don't give them a base you just say a man comes at you. You do this this and this and then the next day is something different in the next day. Something different. I don't understand how these guys get ranked, especially as high as they do. I came from an organized system of Jiu-Jitsu and I wanted to learn something else but if it wasn't that I had a good base, it would have been very difficult to follow this system of Jiu-Jitsu The next thing I'd like to say is when I trained with Moses Powell he was just So full of shit. It was ridiculous. This guy didn't have his own. He lived at the mosque one time and only thing he did was complain and then he lived with one of the ladies from the mosque during the summer she wasn't supposed to have him living with her but she did it because he had nowhere else to go. He then tried to live with a couple other students but wind up living with one but used to talk about the guy. This guy went from a white belt straight to a green belt and the only reason the professor did that is because he needed a place to stay. You're a grown man. You complain about other people but when you don't have your own this is what you have to deal with. When I first met him I knew about him because I am from the Bronx. But I am living in Atlanta now and he just really disappointed. I tried to even get him a job and he didn't want it but he always complained how he didn't have money. We were supposed to pay every month but then after 2 weeks he's asking for the money again or he would give us a so-called special class and didn't want to collect some money after it like we were doing a seminar the guy who he had teaching the class. Carol little was his real name but he used to call him. Muhammad, that guy couldn't teach to save his life. I saw one video on KZbin. It had grandmaster Muhammad or it might have said Carol little but the comments were cut off. It's just a damn shame this dude used to lie to us about all types of stuff and when little. John Davis came down and we were telling him the things that Moses was telling us all he could do is shake his head. I don't know where he went wrong in his life but the guy that I got was a straight shyster a bullshit artist

@quietstormdojo

Yes! If you have a good understanding of the movement of the Kata, and know the application, most forms can be used in self defense.
@AyeJordan7
@AyeJordan7 Жыл бұрын
@@quietstormdojo why not just train the application?instead of spending time on kata and why not allow the students to understand the basics of combat,punching,kicking,strength training,cardio,footwork,don’t you think kata is a waste if teaching them first,this is the original way karate started off back when karate was called Toutie(Chinese hand)fighting was taught first then the kata,plus pressure testing and live resistance was very big back then as well
@quietstormdojo
@quietstormdojo Жыл бұрын
@@AyeJordan7 Thank you for your question and for watching our videos. The reason we just don't teach application, is because we teach a system. In order to have a fighting system you have to have it systematically arranged, that gives you order and guided steps for progression. Also out of respect for the Founder and teachers. I can go deeper on this subject but it's understandable to those who run a Dojo. Again thank you for the question, it was a good one.

@@quietstormdojo I understand that but still I believe a art must evolve over time.there’s always a method that’s more effective,boxing and kickboxing are martial arts yet they train kinda the same,I believe it goes into the principals of the system and how the art expresses itself,I teach martial arts in Augusta Ga by the way so u can go more into detail if you would like

People that think like you are outdated. WTF is "real life"?? Life is real and there's no "fake life". Plus you make it sound like you fight everyday on the street and then come here to tell people what works, what don't work, what people are doing nowadays. First of all, not getting into a fight is the ultimate goal. People like you forget that slapping you unconscious still works and you don;t have to be a martial artist. It only takes one.

Both my brother Steven and I had the honor and privilege of being able to train under the tutelage of Professors Cowboy and Pop Edwards in the Bronx dojo. Their guidance and expertise of Professor Vee’s martial arts i still carry with me to this day. Their philosophy and training was years ahead of the training methods of other schools. I am proud to have known Pop and consider Cowboy a dear friend who was part of our families and throughout all of life’s ups and downs. God Bless Cowboy Pop and their family! I absolutely am thrilled with his dialogue I truly wish that Shihan Cowboy would have been able to demonstrate some of the techniques and applications of the human Makiwari forms, combat techniques and kata forms so others would be able to see the practical application of his teachings!
