Onassis broke her heart over and over again. Making her have an abortion and then marrying Jackie was an evil thing to do to her. She loved him till the end. My heart goes out to her and I feel sorry that she had to endure such pain. Onassis didn’t deserve her love and devotion.

Holy Moly she died young! Ooo Callas needed to build a NEW life not hold on to the old… like Julie Andrews did with successful films later in her career.

I was actually thinking something similar while editing! Considering her disdain for American capitalism and her strong communist sympathies I was wondering how she’d react to the current state of America 😬

Great documentary. On another note, I will never, ever understand her infatuation with an overly obese, ugly cheater like Diego. And don’t give me the “looks is not everything”.

Thank you for leaving a comment! And I agree he was really disgusting 🤮. I kept trying to tell myself during editing that maybe her attraction had more to do with his artistic capabilities and his ability to financially support her. What I REALLY couldn’t understand was all of the other pigs who slept with him during his marriage to Frida 🤦♀️. Even women like her own sister and the gorgeous film star Maria Felix! It’s so baffling. He really was more like an elephant 🤢

Lmaoooo I don’t blame you 😂. During editing I had to gather a lot of photos of Diego and they were painful to look at 😭

sadly a woman of her time - a "Dove" - caged bird - trapped by the constraints and imbalance of a male dominated world - Her sister should have been ashamed of herself for her betrayal as well as the "elephant"

It was the fact that she never had children…..I think not carrying her pregnancy through, by the insistence of Aristotle, must have hurt her very deeply. She left the brilliance of her voice, but she didn’t leave a legacy through any offspring 😭😭😭😭😭😭

John was Autistic, he had a different way of learning, I would not call that a developmental delay. Yes he had epilepsy, but he had a close relationship with brother George, and was a favorite of Queen Mary and Queen Alix. He was much loved by many, I wouldn’t call that a tragic life.

It is quite possible for the prince only wanted to be thought of as a regular sort of soldier. I am sure that the king gave him an honor of some sort, but nothing very public. Those needed to be more public and earned rather than be stowed. I like to do a cat very much. Andrew is linked to him. And I believe probably shares a good many characteristics with him.

As for George being a Nazi sympathizer, I don’t believe that’s true at all. However, his brother Edward most certainly was an admirer. If Edward had not given up the throne, he most certainly would’ve pushed to accommodate German controlling position in Europe.

On New Year’s Eve, I stumbled onto the Netflix film about La Callas and unexpectedly found myself totally captivated. Maria Callas’ story, and Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of her was wonderful. And the article today on KZbin made her an even more sympathetic, vulnerable yet brave person, driven by her artistry and passion.

As a Greek myself, I am proud of this legend, Maria Calogeropoulou ( Callas ). Maria Callas was and will always be the biggest chapter in the music world. A phenomenon! But apart from a great voice, she also had a heart and a soul, and unfortunately a very tragic life, and a very tragic death that noone deserves😢....I love her so much. I wish her personal life was happier and better and easier. A bit more kind to her. She deserved more than this...Her personal life was like a Greek tragedy itself. Rest In Peace our Maria for ever and always. Thank you for what you have given us...I am sorry that your life was not as great as what it should have been. Angelina Jolie is a great actress and i am glad and thankful, that she played Maria Callas and helped Opera and Maria to become popular again and for the younger people to get to know about this woman, human, this legend who gave so much to the entire world. Maria Callas, you will always stay alive in our hearts and your spirit and your voice will never die. For they are immortal.. R.I.P. MARIA CALOGEROPOULOU 🙏💙🤍🇬🇷

I was raised on Callas. From when I was ten years old my Uncle Bob played his collection of every Callas recording for me. Constantly. Regaled me with stories of who she was. I memorized her voice. So when the film “Maria” appeared I was prepared to sneer at it. Mix an untrained voice with the real Callas? Horrifying. But no. Although I can hear what is Callas and what is not, it is not horrifying. I consoled myself with identifying: That’s Callas…And that is not. From hubris, or love, those distinctions were comforting. Because it means La Divina is still, and always, her perfect, incomparable self.

You know I find this entire arch of these elite peoples’ lives and the intertwining of capote into theirs is something to truly marinate on, and think through. The culmination resulting in typed truths, resentments, honesty, distain, and an explosion of his personal life and addiction. Almost as if he knew he could never fully feel love and so he searched for it in acceptance in this elite world but resented the players in it and loved them in his way. He blew up the life he created bc of deep hatred of himself really born out rejection of his mother. His bitterness, insatiable desire for gossip, unable to turn off the constant flow of stories In his head Capote did what he knew best, and typed what he saw, what he heard, what he loved. Unfortunately perception is more important than truth in that world and in Esquire, every typed word of truth drew blow after blow of the carefully crafted perception of those elite swans and their families. Maybe in a different era they could have forgave and forgot but I doubt that would have changed Truman’s true self hatred

Some of the world's greatest artists have had intense lives. I am reminded of Luciano Pavarotti, another operatic great. There can be the best fullest expressions by tormented creative people. I am lucky I was brought up in a musical family. Both parents played viola in the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. They opened new worlds for me that I am still exploring and learning from.
