This sounds exactly like the studio version!! God I hope I get to see them live in my lifetime! Jonsi is up there with Jeff Buckley, Thom Yorke, Damien Rice and ANOHNI when it comes to vocalists who I feel don’t get enough praise. Just beautiful.

Whether I´m sad or not, I allways come back to this video. This music, and particullary this version, touches me inside in a way I cannot express in words and I don´t understand a single word in Jonsi´s mouth. I live for things like these, tank you Sigur Rós.
@pleino8715 Жыл бұрын
He doesn't sing words in a normal context. They don't mean anything (or they mean just what you want them to mean). It is a made up language, used mainly on the ( )-album, called Volenska or Hopelandic in english. "It’s nonsense-singing, designed to convey the absence of meaning. A blank slate for the listener to conjure their own significance." It really makes you to just listen. The voice is "just" another instrument, and it's perfect.

This is one of a handful music videos on KZbin that actually makes me cry every time I see and hear it... this is heartbreakingly beautiful. And I fully agree that it is the very best live performance of "vaka" found anywhere. As a fan commented under a live bo****leg version of "Fly" by Nick Drake: "This is the best version of anything I've ever heard".

Any artist who doesn't try to captivate and stays true to what they believe is great, turns out, they are genius. These guys, performances like this, is pure genius. And I cannot comprehend any single human who does not appreciate their passion, his voice, this song. I just want to thank them.

I think the love of my life is falling away from me. Nothing I do seems to change her distance from me. We live together but, we're so far apart. She is my life. But it seems, I am not hers anymore. I've been in perpetual limbo for months. It's killing me..and her. I can see it in her eyes. I just wish I could make her happy like I used to.. Kasandra, I love you.

Oh wow...........I remember watching this live the night it aired. I forget what show it was though? But I remember being just _transfixed_ and in awe. Had never heard of the band before. Afterwards, I literally had to turn off the tv....and just go lie down....to think, and feel. I felt changed as a human being. I kept thinking 'who the fuck _was_ that band??' It sent me down a journey that genuinely altered my perception of music and life itself. This isn't my favorite track of theirs(but it's close), but being it was the first thing I ever heard from them....boy does it hit hard every single time I hear it. What a song....the sense of aching yearning almost physically hurts.

I wish they had a studio version of this where Jonsi sang that 2nd half like this.... Easily the best version, here, even with a few sour/off notes from the strings - which have become part of it, now that I've listened to it so many times
@SivadBop3 ай бұрын
This is definitely one of the things that makes the live performance so rare/special. I saw them do it the other night, and Jonsi--49 years old now--still sounds exactly like this. His voice ripped over an entire orchestra. I've seen them 5 times and still couldn't believe it.

A loss that I suffered 7 years ago just resurfaced into my being just recently. August 16, 2007, my world turned dark when my friend passed away. Before he died, I should have said what needs to be said and tell him how much he meant to me. Even though I made peace with him through his death, this song resonates my sorrow and the pain that burrowed deep within my soul. Rest in Peace, Timmy Rudd.
