I think cylinder steam on steam Engines will become the new normal in h0 for high detailed locos. ESU did already some German engines here

The car cards, he was talking about is called a pickle board. A board that had hooks of all the spots, where the cars go.

Great Show! I like to apply similar operating techniques on my own layout. I guess great minds think a like. LOL. When talking about turning cars for unloading on one side only at 50:00, instead of a wye, the BNSF in Vancouver, WA has one of their yard jobs take the cars over and spin them on the turntable... one at a time. Cheers - Brian S.

Great show! But what else would you expect with Tim and Don. Interestingly, I recently added an older piggyback flat and trailer and wondered how the railroads got the cars aligned properly. I only have a bookshelf switching layout and now need to add a wye!!!

45:04 Iove the comment about “enjoyment level”. In our hobby we talk about “my railroad” and your comment enriches this in a whole new dimension because it’s a story about tailoring the experience to be how you connect with the model and relate to it so when you see the layout you have more ways to connect with it. Great episode overall. Just wonderful!

This is such a great episode and Scott is a Master. I agree with most of what Scott says; however, I do disagree with the statement that, "less is more" when it comes to adding details. The world is a crowded and messy place and I do like layouts that have a ton of little details. Superdetailing is what makes it real for me. George Sellios' F&SM is overload for some, but for me all of the the detail is perfection. Also I would argue with Scott that the trains are secondary (heresey, I know). The trains are merely part of the scenery and add to the overall impact but the scene needs to still work in the absence of the trains.

And you, Bernard, are the TRUE Master of all things Mini! I don’t believe I said “less is more” but rather I think Ray mentioned that. I can’t remember the context exactly, but I think it was within the reference of not packing each scene on our layouts to the maximum. But, to each their own, and you’re right about George Sellios’ layout - every square inch is absolutely packed with detail and frenetic movement. For me, that is way too much, but I admire his abilities greatly. Also, I think you may have misunderstood my comments on the trains as the main focus (or, maybe I didn’t say it well enough). My point was not to diminish the approach to detailing all the scenes. In fact, I said several times that the layering approach is a good way to come back to scenes to add as much detail as one desires. I was simply saying that when operating, the trains become the main focus, so detailing and weathering them would go a long way to enjoying them more. It wasn’t a matter of detailing the trains at the expense of not detailing the scenes.

Hi from the UK. Really enjoyable podcast. Are there any links to videos or photos of Mike King's layout? I use card buildings on my layout (www.youtube.com/@csx-isolawest2011) and would be really interested to see what he's done. Cheers Lee Ward

I wish more shipment data was available. Insanity? Perhaps, but data like this is what really brings an intimate understanding of a railroad to those of us not in the industry, and can open our eyes to possibilities for our layouts we might never have been aware of - like boiler slag traffic!

Hi Lonnie, I hope that the RPM in 2025 could be the week later, (as originally planned for 2024). I was all set to come, hotel was booked as soon as the date of 26 & 27 July 2024 was announced but I had to cancel due to the date change to the 19th & 20th,. My work committments prevent the earlier week. I came to the show in 2021 as an international traveller, which was the first time the show was late enough in July to allow my visit. Anyway lets see what happens next year. Keep up the good work!

Yes! Kay Bee Toys at Kings Plaza in New York City was a source for much HO rolling stock in the late 80s. Toys R Us not so much so because it was a long walk alongside a ground highway to reach it from Kings Plaza.

No comments?? Seriously?? Ok, me first... I am doing homework on acrylic paints and Windsor & Newton has a Galeria line; is this what Mr. Arsenault uses or is it the "lesser" acrylic? Additionally, what is used to thin the paint to do streaking and/or fading?

Great conversation regarding the business side of the hobby. As a customer, since you are making your own DCC decoders, there are a few things I look for: NMRA compliant to included JMRI programing and at least a keep alive of 3 seconds. A big luxury of mine is having Bluetooth capability to run on phones to decrease the stress on a command station. cheers can't wait to see what GP40s come along.
