Thanks so much for an amazing video. It reminded me of just how many excellent games there were for that system, and I recognized at least 2/3 of them. Frontier Elite II - so many hours spent on that game!

Most of these games were 2D, and even those that were 3D required expensive accelerator cards. In the 1990s this was not enough, especially when you consider that launch price of Amiga 1200 was $600, which is close to $2000 today. There was simply not enough improvement over Amiga 500, and somewhere in 1994-95 386DX with VGA became really cheap.

My mum worked for Psygnosis during the Sony takeover, always said that it was a god group of people who worked there. Sony gets a lot of stick for shutting the studio down but it really made sense at the time, with the company being more than 30 years old at the time (infact some of the team original started together in the 80s as something like ‘imagine studios’, don’t quote me on the name) lots of the original developers where coming to the end of their careers, many of the staff at psygnosis who weren’t, were just moved to different places within the sec group. Some of the Liverpool based workers set up their own studio called firesprite and Sony gave them the work for the playstion playroom on ps4 and were later bought by Sony again. I have fond memories of psygnosis games imprinted into my memory from a very young age and later being able to play the PS1. It all reminds me of what feels like a better time in the gaming industry, when passionate developers made games they wanted to play.

Imagine people were buying dirtcheap CeleronA OCed by 50-60+% FSB, with some CPU's with unlocked MP, 700-900 MHz on cheapest MOBO, and Riva TNT/TNT2 - 2D&3D card that beat the sh!t out of 3DFX. Imagine being that much stupid to buying crappy K6, expensive MOBO, separate 2D card and 3D accelerator with totally sh!t drivers.
