Perfect intonation. I think you can tell Sheku has perfect pitch. I have it and I can tell his tuning is faultless. Aside from the intonation though it is beautifully expressive.

Interesting tune if musicians are used always to expect the piano. Pretty good job! Thank you so much!

As one who has played this many times over my 40+ years as a professional cellist: you are nuts. His phrasing is beautiful and unique. Have you studied these pieces for 50 years, as I have?
@MrAkifusion Жыл бұрын
@@tomsmith-op8kz As someone who can barely play a few notes in a church, you should study it for another 50 years ;)

@@MrAkifusion OK mr, can I hear you playing the cello? I think I played some fine notes, as I have in a career in a major ballet orchestra, a career in which I've played under internationally world renowned conductors (7 summers under Sir David Willcocks, Henri Mancini, Zdenek Macal), played with The Moody Blues and Pavarotti, recorded professional albums and etc. This is a miniscule list written before coffee and memory sets in...Tell me sir, what are your credentials?

This is utterly superb! Not only is it played the way that Holst composed it, the skill of the players is off the charts. It's rare that I get the chance to redefine my relationship with treasured old friends but this had me hearing Jupiter in a whole new way, thank you.

1. The dynamic contrast at 10:48 - 10:55 is really nice, separates the beginning and end of each phrase pleasantly. 2. At 11:17 - 11:28 I wish the inner voices could've been brought out more, despite the challenging shifting they suffer.

Anyone notice how he sometimes plucks the open C string with his left hand as he starts bowing it? Is that a common thing to do to get it to resonate better, or is that something that he just does?
@tomsmith-op8kz3 жыл бұрын
Yes, as a cellist I can say it is sometimes done to get the note going, so to speak. This is a mesmerizing performance! I listened to it as I am about to play it at a Maunday Sunday service.
