Hello, suppose its an unknown bore & we still want to measure its size, just to know the diameter, what is the procedure?

U should get urself a .0001 dial indicator for checking how out of round it is. It'll also let u better see where the highs and lows are. U can just support the journal itself. But this may be a finicky set up for alot of shops i guess. This comes from a machinist who makes bearing not a mechanic

an easier way is to measure the piston first, and zero the bore gauge then measure the cylinder wall. You will get the piston to wall clearance
