Siemens came in and replaced a large part of the control electronics. It was done under warranty ni my case, without costs.

no idea mate, I had Siemens come over and they replaced part of the underlaying electronics (under warranty). In the mean time we've sold this Siemens and installed a 6-way Miele induction hob.

Gas stoves don't do this. Oh how I long for simpler times.

Fireplaces can have even less problems than gas stoves!

no gas-connection in this house though, electric cooking is the only (realistic practical) way

Most likely a fault in one or two capacitors on the main elin pcb (Left side). Replace C25 (680uF/10V) and C26 (330uF/10V) and the problem is gone.

I had a similiar problem, but they made me pay for the replacement parts, even tough it was covered by warranty - supposedly water got in the electronic. Avoid. Don't buy Siemens :(

Have the same problem! Cannot start a hob without powering on and off the whole unit. Luckily the switch is inside a convenient eye level cupboard . This hob worked beautifully for 5 years but like so many things - not built to last?

This problem was solved under warranty by Siemens even though the unit was officially out of warranty. The complete control-electronics unit was replaced. Nice work Siemens!
