What kind of clay is this? And if baked for how long? Thank you
@pauladeleon8673Ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing this test fire with us! I've been looking for reviews of Mason stains, however, examples like this offer a much better source of information! As a newbie, I'm looking for the post-fire results of specific stain colors after mixing into slip or a clay body pre-fire. This is an excellent source of information.

So where do you buy your rice paper?
@yasclaycommunity1774 ай бұрын
When I made the video, I was using a rice paper that is now discontinued. I have switched to u-haul newsprint. It is about $10 for 200 sheets. It works just as well. You can buy blank rice paper from Sanboa and ceramica from cananda, but I found that too pricey. I have researches and researched to find the type rice paper that the image transfer companies use but that seems really a trade secret or is did not research well enough. If any one out there has any tips on where to find the best rice paper , please let us know.

Hi! Are all Mason stains food safe, after applying food safe glaze?
@yasclaycommunity1774 ай бұрын
When you purchase your mason stains you will have to check the MSDS for it, or contact the manufacturer. I know in our studio we only use food safe dry materials therefore the ones shown are. we need to consistently keep checking though. Material we once thought was safe in no longer like Talc. So if this video lingers in the online world long enough some of the material may be found to be not food safe. The only way to really know is keep checking with the manufacturer or the clay supply store where you purchased your materials.

I’m having a heck of a time getting most colours cone 6. No one talks about clear glazes they are using, or most fire cone 5. Im in a shared kiln that does cone 6. Can’t get any bright colours , no pinks, maroon, light greens, orange. Pretty much only getting black, blue, red and dark green. Using zinc free clear by gorgies.

I have mixed mason stains with both Gerstley Borate and Ferro Frit 3110. With both the wash made seems to just be dry and brushes off the bisque ware. Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong?

I think you use mason stains on wet clay, but not sure.

I've mixed mason stains with frits and they stick to bisque ware just fine. The proportion I use is 1:1:8 (stain:frit:water). What proportions have you used?

Thank you for this video, it was just what I was looking for. I am new to pottery and am wanting to learn about hand building to start. I have a question and would appreciate your knowledge on this. Instead of putting a foot ring on the bowl, would it be an option to make small "feet " out of balls of clay? Thanks again and I will watch more :)

I would use a round GR Pottery form to make this easier and quicker but this is good if you don't have anything.

Is Gerstley Borate food safe when it’s applied over food safe glaze?
@yasclaycommunity1772 жыл бұрын
I believe it is food safe. GB is a flux that is in most food safe glazes. The best thing is to contact HighWater clay or your local clay distributor to ask for certain as they will be able advise you better.

What type of clay do you use ? And you just let it dry after ?? Thanksss for the video :)
@yasclaycommunity1772 жыл бұрын
We use a reclaimed combination of clay bodies that are left over from students. the clay that we use are Highwater's Loafers Glory, Speckled Brownstone, Moonstone. among a few others. Yes, After construction we will let it dry out before firing.

How are you subtracting the weight of the bucket? Should not the scale be balanced before putting the material into the empty bucket?

Thank you for the feedback. When we started this KZbin adventure we really didn't think more than our students would find us. We film the demo and immediately post it for the next weeks class assignment. Students get to see the bisqued and glazed pieces when they come to class, or we just reclaim the item after throwing it. However, you have a very valid point you never do get to see the end result. I will try to put together a photo montage of finished items. We will keep tis in mind for the future.
