I’ve split eastern hardwoods for 43 years, 38 of them by a sledge, wedge, and maul…..guaranteed, while it may be fine for short straight grained pine or popular, and maybe small pieces of ash…you sure won’t do it with oak, hickory, gum, most maples……but, it’s still a nice piece of craftsmanship.
