Why does My tallow soap come out brown?
@NewEnglandHomebody
@NewEnglandHomebody 2 күн бұрын
@@rampage17044 Hmm, it could be that the tallow was not pure or purified enough. Make sure there is no blood or meat left on your tallow for the next time. Does it have any bad odors? It could have gone bad as well. Please see my videos description for more tips and details. Thanks for watching!

@@rossydv yes that’s exactly right. The crock pot speeds up the cure time and I was able to use the ‘crock pot’ soap in just about a week vs the cold process soap which I let cure for about 6 weeks. The soap needs that time to harden, and dry out. Both will work fine, though I do find the cold process soap to be prettier! Thanks for watching!

@@rossydv thank you! I got them from a Walmart, I think they were intended to be used as food storage containers. Thank you so much for the comment. Yes the crock pot does speed the cure time, allowing me to use the soap in just about a week vs the cold process (where I would cure the soap for about 6 weeks) so with the crock pot soap I can be less patient hehe Thank you so much for the kind compliment! Can I use oven insted of waiting 6 weeks???
@NewEnglandHomebody
@NewEnglandHomebody 2 ай бұрын
This method used a cold process, so no. The soap needs that time to saponify. This is a lye soap and lye is a critical ingredient in the soap-making process. It reacts with oils during the saponification process to create soap and glycerin, changing the liquid oils (tallow) into a solid soap bar. 6 weeks is needed to complete this process. Thank you for watching!

What makes one choose a hot process vs a cold process? What are the advantages or disadvantages of these for help in understanding what one is choosing to do, please? [7.6.2024]
@NewEnglandHomebody
@NewEnglandHomebody 2 ай бұрын
Both hot and cold processes have their merits in soap making. The hot process involves cooking oils and lye to accelerate saponification, yielding a quicker result, while the cold process allows for more intricate designs and customization with a slower curing time. @@leeendley8009 that is strange, I’m sorry you are having trouble. The best advice I can give it is to check the lye. I would recommend using 100% lye and stirring constantly until it dissolves.
