After reading an article in the San Francisco Chronicle about the growing nutria problem in California’s Central Valley, I read the lengthy Nutria entry in Wikipedia. The work you’re doing is gruesome but necessary. But I truly hope you are aware of the many zoonotic diseases you are exposing yourself to and take precautions to avoid becoming infected. By the way, I’m very curious to know what gauge of shotgun rounds you are using. Here in California hunting nutria is permitted, but there is no eradication program because apparently people confuse nutria with protected muskrat and beaver species.
@DownRiverOutdoors_11 күн бұрын
@@grntchstrmdws absolutely, we see first hand how much habitat the nutria destroy for the other animals of the marsh, they gotta go! And we use 12 gauge birdshot but thats mostly because we dont want to skip rounds off the water and potentially hurt other people

Daaamn this feels very nice. We've been having a pretty big problem with these things here in Northern Italy, they're invasive here too. Only difference is we have a lot less space and all the waters are distributed in shallow canals around the perimeter of the fields, meaning the damage the nutrias do is much higher due to their concentration, and on top of that we have much stricter laws too for hunting! Keep up the good work boys!

I wouldn't kill them as they are good at eliminating other pests and rodents. However, I also don't hunt in an infested area, and although we do have thousands of copperheads in my neighborhood, as well as the occasional rattlesnake, my kids are adults and I don't have outdoor pets, so I get it. It's just I wouldn't kill them myself.

Definitely trolling motor control, they pick up on changes of speed cause it makes different noises so try and keep it as low as possible and avoid stopping it when you see them so they dont get spooked, try to cast past them and bring it in front of of them instead of bombing a lure right on top. A good set of polarized glasses makes a huge difference, we wont go without them
