We marry the opposite of ourselves because they’re good at things we’re not good at. It’s simple but not obvious. The only problem is getting along with the opposite.

The short and sweet guy conversation are a fact in fact I was thinking about it the other day If I get lunch with the guys you basically really only talk for about 8 minutes the whole time and part of that includes the dirty jokes about either the ranch or gravy where as getting lunch with a woman is like squeezing 2 hours of conversation in 1.

You can't turn a man into a woman or a woman into a man. XX or XY remain XX or XY no matter what. I know that is not politically correct and my heart goes out for those who struggle with gender identity issues. What is happening in the emotions and brain of the person is complicated, but our DNA remains our DNA and we remain male/female at the molecular level no matter what is done through hormone therapy and/or surgery. People desperately want what they feel and their lives to align, but sadly the only answer to that is spiritual, and for many the true completion of that will only happen in a relationship with Jesus Christ that culminates in eternity.

A great set of resources that highlight and underline the gender differences that Joe mentions are the (audio)books: For Women Only: What You Need to Know about the Inner Lives of Men and its companion: For Men Only: A Straightforward Guide to the Inner Lives of Women. I found them to be very enlightening, encouraging, and informative as opposed to several marriage counseling books I have read. Each are based on the results on thousands of surveys taken by the gender they discuss. It will have you asking your spouse / fiance / boyfriend / girlfriend 'Is that true?!?' For Men Only changed my understanding so much that I shared For Women Only with my wife before we were even engaged; Since then we have gifted it to several friends that were either married or getting married. Please check it out!

+Lisa E - Sorry that you have arrived at the conclusion that this is a gender inequality promotion, I would say that it is comedic acknowledgement that Men and Women are different in more ways than just physiology. The speaker never condoned violence, in fact he told the women a way to avoid it. Most men aren't normally violent, but most men do have either short tempers or emotional scars; this doesn't make them bad people, just people that need help. Some help is beyond the help of an untrained counselor and an objective third party is never a bad idea. That being said, the audience is important to consider here, Joe is a marriage counselor, giving the first of several sessions about marriage. He is abrupt, to the point, and no nonsense. Joe seems to be trying to (comedically) shock them into re-examining their assumptions about what marriage is supposed to be. If your relationship is what you say it is then this style of presentation and method of presenting the message is most likely not going to speak to you. As someone who has been in bad relationships I wish that I had heard this message back then as the laughter would have softened the pain of realizing I was doing things wrong. The fact that Joe was in front of the camera speaking about what marriage is supposed (read pushing the couples to be better while lifting them with comedy) is ample witness that he cares. God Bless! Micah

Micah Beasley Funny thing, I’ve always lived with the belief that those who fight others or scream and yell do so because they lack the ability to actually have a discussion or to simply disagree. Their only defense is to become violent.
