Very beautiful spots in these two adjacent towns of Bohol... a concentration of natural wonders that every tourist must see. # I was born and raised in one of these towns, three-quarters of a century ago, in a village 12 km away from the falls, Bohol's tallest. Since my village is along the coast, the villagers consider the fall's location "interior/mountainous" that no coastal villager wishes to visit... the sea, beaches, islands, and sandbars, like Kawasihan, are more appealing. Well, locals have so many beautiful spots around them that options are chosen as to proximity and affordability. The bottom line is budget (aka money) -- most locals don't have it! For me, as a little kid, the mangrove patches were accessible, so inviting and I often wandered there, alone, treading on fishpond dikes, wading in muddy or sandy sea streams. Thank God, I got not into any quicksand. Regarding another tourist attraction: Lamanok Island... it is only 8 km away. In the 1950s and 60s, we kids thought it was a place of "encantos" so we dreaded the place, even mentioned it only in whispers, and we believed it was as distant as America. Then, I imagined the island to have a white-sand beach full of "sigay" -- sea shells called cowries that I cherished as my best playthings -- which I could gather by the tons. For these stipulated personal circumstances, sad to say, I've never been to the enchanted island... nor to the falls. I must admit that the poor or non-existent roads and lack of transportation in 1950s and 60s were big factors. Today, concreted roads from my ancestral home pass along the mangrove and fishpond areas, connect to Lamanok Pt., round the Anda peninsula, up to the splendid white powdery-sand Anda beaches (Anda de Boracay, Bas Dio, Bugnaw Si-i, etc.,15-25 km away). Access to the falls has improved also. And I've got a car. Yet I can't travel to those beautiful places pronto... I don't live there anymore.#
