I used to be on the WWDX forum but I got tired of a couple of know-it-alls who don't know what they're talking about stalking me and following me around and harassing me when I tried to offer assistance or experience and would post BS. One of their stupidities was to claim a 5T x 4" former coax choke would work for the bottom of a T2LT. It doesn't. RF in the shack, high & variable SWR and poor performance. I replaced it with a 16T x 2.5" and it was perfect. Your moderators suck, complained and nothing changed. Closed my membership and walked away. Sad when an otherwise quality forum caters to bullies and ignores the regular guy who only wanted to share knowledge and experience.

I use my CB-500 (AT-500M2) for 10m repeaters as well. Its dedicated HAM mode works really well indeed! I have made many DX contacts with mine, also on 29.600 FM simplex. 73

Unlocked my GMRS version purely because CHIRP was being lame about what you can do with different channels. Now I have one configuration for my factory unlocked and GMRS radios. Ever notice that the HAM guys spend 90% of their time talking about FCC legality in a hobby for armature to have the freedom to experiment inside a set of frequencies without legal checks?

Good video, i do have a question if you get the thd8 2 Gen on ham radio you could unlocked to GMRS as well? And if you can do you get the 10 watts on GMRS frequency? Because they sell this radio for GMRS and they said is only 5 watts? I'm confused
@JohnysouthernerАй бұрын
It's my understanding that in HAM & Unlocked mode, it's a true 10 watts. However is GMRS mode it limits to 5 watts. You can simply just put it in unlocked mode & program in the GMRS frequencies & get your 10 watts

Thank you for the update on how to change the settings. I also have a question that maybe you can help me with. One of my H8 has the letters H W on the display and the other has H W R and it's not transmitting or receiving. Thank you
@tuckmeatАй бұрын
H means "High Power". W means it's transmitting Wide FM as opposed to Narrow FM. R means that you have it set to a repeater and have hit the "Reverse" button, activating the output frequency of the repeater instead of the input. The # button toggles the Reverse.

IMHO, the only things this radio is missing are the ability to transmit on SSB and low power Bluetooth. When living through a disaster, listening can be just as important as transmit. The general receive ability of this radio challenges many of my SWL radios. It's portability to feature ratio is unparalleled. Didn't fully appreciate the need for this need until the disaster in WNC hit.

So, if you are completely unlocked and can use both ham and GMRS channels, it won’t delete your programming when you switch between the two, correct?

But how does it do in a simplex range test? It would be neat to have a pair of these go against comparable Yaesus to show if the Kenwood's DStar or the Yaesu's C4FM is more robust. Or for that matter a pair of DMR radios.
@tuckmeat4 ай бұрын
This question comes down to the bandwidth used by each mode. The more narrow the bandwidth, usually the more effective range. D-Star is 6Khz wide; DMR is 6.25 kHz for each slot. I would expect D-Star and DMR effective range to be similar. Yaesu's C4FM is 12.5kHz, so that would typically result in less range.
