nice video, its not like this 100% (since you can still troubleshoot with or without ai) but one problem i see with these tools is you kinda have to go all in or nothing, i have trouble working within my own codebases more now just from using chatgpt because i don't remember how things are set up and work, and when i have to fix something that chatgpt coded (or that didn't integrate because of my code) its way harder to reason about and troubleshoot, i would imagine using cursor would make this much worse since these changes are not as much a part of your memory, even if you review every change it makes
@VoloBuilds26 минут бұрын
That's a good point - you have to really be intentional about how your codebase is structured. I find it really helpful to proactively refactor and make sure you have small files with clear names so that you have something to "hold on to" as you make further changes.

How good is this with C/C++, Swift, Java? From what I get, is that this would be very good with Python, JavaScript and its frameworks which mostly use VSCode. How would this improve your programming abilities? Like how likely are you to really learn?
@VoloBuilds2 күн бұрын
Yeah that's a good question. I've been fortunate to already be using JS/TS for the vast majority of my work so it works super well for me, but I haven't worked in those other languages. However, they are all pretty popular and have existed for a while so I expect it should do pretty good there as well. In terms of using Cursor to learn programming, I am still pondering if it is the best approach for beginners or not. For experienced devs, I think it works great because it can "look stuff up" and autocomplete stuff for you without you needing to go read documentation most of the time. Then you can see the code and learn from it. In terms of learning new languages, I think it's possible as well - you can have it write stuff in that language and ask it to explain.

I'm not sure what type of data analysis you are planning to do - but you can get a lot out of just using free ChatGPT for that sort of purpose. I would switch to Cursor if you're looking to build full applications - but ChatGPT is good enough for scripts to clean data and such.

Dont get me wrong this vid is great but we want to understand why he can say that with such confidence? What the hell are they seeing

Anyone can say whatever they want. Doesn't mean it's true. My video talks about the nuances, where some of what he says makes sense and other details don't. Keep in mind, he has a very clear incentive to make things appear a particular way. It's very much in his best interest for people to believe that AI, powered by his hardware, can accomplish anything and make everyone's dreams come true. Not saying he's totally wrong - just that he has a bias on the subject.

Thanks for sharing suscribed and liked, what is the difference between composer and the chat on the right side? Thanks you
@VoloBuilds8 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! They are fairly similar actually. Right now, Composer will auto-create files that it thinks are needed which is a nice plus, but I almost always use the sidebar chat exclusively because it just seems to be more comprehensive with the code that it writes. Composer will often leave files with "// write your code here" kind of comments which are then awkward to modify and iterate. So personally I prefer the sidebar chat

For documentation that is project specific like for example documentation for an API like the Google Maps API or documentation for a UI library like Daisy UI would you then first add the url for these in Cursor Settings > Features > Docs and then in CHAT or COMPOSER reference those with @docs or would you reference them directly in in CHAT or COMPOSER using @docs without first adding them to Docs in Cursor settings ?
@VoloBuilds8 күн бұрын
Good question. I've only needed to use that in one-off cases so I'll just add the web link to the docs. But if using the Docs I think adding it and then referencing with @docs makes sense if you plan to use it multiple times in the future for the same project.

It's a highly advanced mathematical model at its core reflecting QFT and its symmetries through an E8 fractal lattice. The system guarantees alignment through a Cuboctahedron. I can't say more publicly. I'm not a software engineer, although I wanted to be (BSEE instead). You have great communication skills and are diving into the very area I need to. Creating an app through AI still requires extensive knowledge of UI/UX, typography, color theory, accessibility, performance, security, and numerous technical and design considerations. Effectively communicating these requirements is a skill in itself, and many struggle to articulate their vision clearly, especially people who have no knowledge of design or programming. Inexperienced individuals may overlook crucial factors. The iterative nature of app development, involving testing and refinement, is challenging to replicate through simple instructions. While AI can assist in development, it's unlikely to fully replace human expertise, creativity, and decision-making, especially in understanding user needs, market dynamics, and driving innovation beyond existing patterns.

Great job. Quick question with GPTs if you use your normal ChatGPT API for a third party app when users visit your platform are they accessing the GPT you created or ChatGPT and if not how can I use my GPT to build an app dedicated to my GPT?
@VoloBuilds14 күн бұрын
If you build a third party app with the ChatGPT API, it is not a GPT. It will use the API key and cost you money in this case - but it is the only way to build something on a separate platform. As far as custom GPTs go - you cannot surface a custom GPT on a third party platform; it is only available inside of ChatGPT. Hope that helps!

Relatively new to coding.. Why did you combine the files surveyviewer and survey taker (sorry not the same names... but you know what I mean).. You had it conditionally display the trash button and drag buttons. But, seperate files were working well.. Until it had to change everything upon your request .. Does it help to have a single file vs 2. Does it help with processing speed?
@VoloBuilds14 күн бұрын
Great question! This is what we call "refactoring" where we like to regroup code occasionally so that it is easier to navigate and modify in the future. It does not help with processing speed, but it makes it easier for me to make changes in the future where I just have to change one file instead of two. Let's say I added a new question type. If I have just one component (in one file), then I only need to make that change in one place. It's easier to make that change. But more importantly, I won't accidentally forget to update the second file! If I kept it as 2 files and added the new question type to only one of them... Then the second would accidentally break! So refactoring and keeping our code organized can help prevent such issues :)

After using cursor for many hours, I came to a conclusion that there is never any chance for an ai tool to replace a human dev for a simple reason that human can spot patterns very quickly whereas these tools can never do this. This is the beauty of our brains
@VoloBuilds14 күн бұрын
I have found AIs to be increasingly good at spotting patterns, but the thing they can't really really replace is our actual intent. We build stuff in a certain way because *we* want it to work that way. The things we delegate to the AI should be things where we don't care about the specifics too much (or assume that whatever is "standard" will be acceptable for our case)
@holetarget492514 күн бұрын
@@VoloBuilds for comparaison, a baby human being can feel the danger of green snake handing from a tree from a certain distance without any pre-knowledge. You're letting it make too many changes at the same time. Your advice about giving it multiple steps isn't great imo. I structure the whole prompt so it does as little as possible so there's actual control instead of changing things you didn't intend.
@VoloBuilds14 күн бұрын
I think there is a balance to it. You're right that I do tend to err on the side of asking too much of it - but many times it is capable of handling it, or just barely not getting it right. In those cases, it's often easier for me to roll forward and ask it for fixes instead of building everything bit by bit. I find that this makes me faster overall, even if it's prone to issues along the way.

One idea I've seen is to use v0 for the UI before going to Cursor.
@VoloBuilds14 күн бұрын
Yeah I have heard of this workflow and it seems pretty cool but I ran into issues with it importing shadcn into my project - but will give it another try soon. I have a theory that the "magic" in v0 is simply that they are making it use shadcn components - which we should be able to do directly in Cursor as well. I'm gonna give that a try and see if we can make UIs just as good with just Cursor!
@larsh58536 күн бұрын
@@VoloBuilds Would be cool to see a video where v0 is compared to doing the same in Cursor with using the shadcn components. I haven't seen anyone do that comparison. I would myself prefer to do it all inside Cursor to avoid the friction of moving things back and forth between v0 and Cursor.

When it makes a mistake and you ask/help it to fix it... (e.g, the tailwind mis-config). Does Cursor have the ability to learn from its mistakes/shortcomings? If you were to start a new project with similar tech stack and requirements, would it now ensure the style js files are included?
@VoloBuilds21 күн бұрын
Hey Gevik, great question. Cursor does not "learn" in any way. It uses the context that you give it when you start a new chat. You can tag specific files or have it search across your codebase. You can also create a ".cursorrules" file that will instruct it how it should behave at all times - so if I really wanted to, I could manually update that file and tell it about the tailwind thing. But I prefer to keep it lightweight because the more context you give it, the more "confused" I've seen the AI get. So in that case, I'd rather just take a mental note for myself and write the prompt better next time.

Imagine being dependent on a language being popular, because otherwise your editor can't code for you
@VoloBuilds21 күн бұрын
I wouldn't say "dependent" - just using leverage properly. The reality is that you can build almost anything with any modern programming language. It's just a matter of how hard you want to make it for yourself. I do think it's important to understand what the code actually does though, regardless of the language.
