What is the difference between using a glazing medium versus water to thin the paint?
@annawooden84089 ай бұрын
In water, acrylic pigment can sometimes settle out or run, so it gets that grainy texture. With a medium, the pigment remains suspended and has a more level treatment. I use both depending on what effect I am going for at the time. In this instance, I want even coverage, and to be able to control the concentration as I feather the edges. :)

Thank you for this video! And answering a question I’ve been asking for months! Question, how long did you let the grey tones alcohol markers dry before adding watercolor?
@annawooden8408 Жыл бұрын
Hello! I didn't wait too long. Since the paper is absorbent, it does absorb more of the ink than marker paper. I wait until it's not cool to the touch and doesn't smell like alcohol. Really, just a few minutes.

Theres a word for this technique, i think it sounds french but i cant remember it! Anyone know?
@annawooden8408 Жыл бұрын
A grayscale or monotone underpainting is often referred to as a grisaille, maybe that’s what you’re thinking of?
@Bb186fo Жыл бұрын
@@annawooden8408 I'm pretty sure that's it! Let's say instead of using 4 different red shades, from lightest to darkest, you do the shading in all Grey and then take one lighter color red and color over top of it essentially achieving the same effect, is that basically what it does?

This was actually perfect, weird that there are so few views. My instinct would be to simply use a black/gray for shadows but I guess that doesn't work so well with warmth (also the black can become brownish/dirty). So how do you pick the shadow tints?
@annawooden84082 жыл бұрын
Glad that it was helpful! I use cool tones to help my shadows recede. if you’re layering them on top of a warm color, try to find a cool color that you can use to deepen the value. I often use Payne’s gray, deep indigo, and violet for my shadows. Happy painting!
