Thank you for correctly, showing us how to properly tune our violin to the Indian tune sound however, I am having issues with the third string, which in American is an A string, but for you it’s a E4 string. I am having issues tuning it to E4. My violin is only going to E 5 and back down to D5, but I can’t figure out the E4 tune.

Nandree, for your clear and simple explanation! I am sending your video to my Turkish Mevlevi Music teachers who wonder how I am managing their music ! I have been able to master and sing gratefully since 2011 ,Turkish Music, even though I cannot read Western music notes. Strangely they teach Western style which fails miserably in interpreting nuances in note transitions. My background in Karnatic and Hindusthani music then simply by acute listening and then reproducing made it happen. When I have trouble in catching certain nuances, I find by figuring svara patterns in them I always get them. Similiarly being trained in teaching Kerala Natanam and Bharatanatyam I find that when I play "usuls" on the bendir drum I am falling back on vaithaari/cholkettus. All praise to and long live Bhaaratheeya Shaastriya Sangeetham Once again, thank you.

Tejas, many thanks for making these videos. I want to learn to play the violin. That's my goal. I'm trying to learn by watching/listening/reading about it. With absolutely no background in music, I've struggled to learn the basic concepts. Your videos have helped alleviate those struggles. You are indeed helping in making music more approachable. Do you still take online classes?

Nice video, I was looking for a video on this topic in the context of our Veda classes where Shruti is a very foundational concept. When you said you were going to be “technical” I was expecting you would talk about octaves and such instead you showed an unlabeled and crooked line hand drawn on a piece of paper. I’m not sure what you were thinking of conveying. Perhaps you could update this video. Finally I was hoping you would point to apps that are showing up for iPhone or Android, which can listen to you and tell you what your pitch is. Is there one for Shruti as well?

I need more from your videos like, with the same example, many of them said in their mouth, but you did that written example was awesome, that's why I found to understand easily

Brother, I've been watching many videos but your teaching was amazing, I could clearly understand
if we count or hit something evenly 3 times then again 3 times at a even tempo and accent the first beat each time we complete the last beat on 3 that is what we call in western countries a waltz. it has a twirling motion because 3 is a odd number. so the beat is asymmetrical . if we hit something that makes a sound 4 times than 4 times again at a even pulse and accent the first beat ( 1 ) it is called a march and has a symmetrical motion because 4 is a even number. if you want to move forward evenly and efficiently you march. you do not move forward efficiently by waltzing because you expend to much energy looping side to side . you don't move a army on foot waltzing . only a straight ahead march beat in a four count works. thats the reason you waltz with a girl you like because she can't move away from you efficiently . if you step on her feet and she slaps you , your so stunned and thereby distracted she has a chance of slipping away from you. bye bye birdie .
