Happy day's part 3. I think that you chose the right wood species in this part of the build as the spalted maple backings with what looks to be sapele for the edges/separators looks stunning and overall each tool holder will definitely POP once you've used whatever you decide to finish them off with, be it oddies oil or even a small amount of varnish. Nomatter if im correct in thinking that the edges/separators are made of sapele once treatment is applied, the whole thing is going to look awesome. Which is something that I expected from the other videos that you uploaded as the attention to detail has been really good. One of the main things that makes me keep coming back to watch what you're doing with the tool cabinet is the fact that you are going at this project with pride and actually doing the work which will make this cabinet last a lifetime, by this i'm referring to the fact that you are doing dovetailed joinery and using through tennons etc rather than doing what loads of other KZbin video creators do and use pin nails etc, basically being lazy and just wanting to be finished with the whole build process. As we know there's will basically last a couple of years if they're lucky unlike the one you are making as I've said before will last a lifetime unless it encounters some kind of accident. As always buddy 💯% 👍 🫡. P.s. i look forward to seeing part 4 next 🤔🧐

Sweet, Part III. Thank you! I love watching your execution with your attention to detail. Here's my thoughts fwiw: * "Wedginator 5000" - I about lost a mouthful of burrito for that - chef's kiss! * Dunk's for the win! - I see you are a man of refinement and taste * You seem to have a talent for using the most difficult approach to glue-ups outside of some a**hole who uses my shop here... hm You are or are about to seriously love the time you took on this, and smile every time you grab a tool from your cabinet. Question: your bench is lovely - it looks like either oak or ash... I've heard those species are actually too hard for benchtops, so my question is then, how is that benchtop treating you? Not enough 'spring,' or too much? Very curious.

@@mattelias721 Thanks, man! Appreciate the comment! The Wedgenator works awesome by the way! 😂 The bench is oak, ash (good eye!), and walnut. I got all three of those at an auction for pretty cheap, so that was the reason they were used. The legs were made out of 4x4 pine and there is a shelf underneath with maple. I was looking today to see what I have video wise on building it, and I may make a video of that as I get asked a lot about it. I absolutely love the bench. It’s a perfect size and it’s rock solid. It’s probably the most useful item I’ve made. It’s so nice to have.

Looks great and your joinery choices are very similar to a walnut tea cabinet I built. I also did the dados for the shelves with through mortise & tenons but I messed up and made my dados too shallow (1/32) so you can barely tell it was done. QUESTION: how deep were your dados for these shelves ? 3/32, 1/8” or something else ?

I'm enjoying watching you pour time and attention into this, and you're getting the results you want. I'm working on a similar project, and just got done fitting the drawers - nothing like finally seeing that pile of drawer box components assembled and snug in their places. I don't intend this as a troll comment, and I know exactly two things about woodturning (jack, and the other thing) - I'm not sure your tool should be making that squealing sound? Looking forward to Part 3!

Nice🤔,i like the fact that you spent the time to make the draws in great detail , from the spalted maple drawfronts right down to making the handles on the lathe and finally finishing them with the wedges. Most people wouldn't have been bothered to do that but I think that it finishes off the draws perfectly and not only looks way better but also shows the attention to detail that you are willing to goto with your build, especially when most people would have just put on a cheap handle and used a screw that's way too long for the handles 🤣🤪. I know that you've only just uploaded this video (part2) but honestly I hope that it's not too long before you upload part 3 as im looking forward to seeing what you decide to do with the tool storage. I.e will you make individual tool holders or just rush the finish and throw something together just to finish it off. Personally I hope you spend some time to make individual holders that are different for each tool🧐🙂. As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧. P.s. at the ending of the video, time 19.35 to the side of the handle back is that a indentation i see from a hammer strike🧐🤔 it's a bit hard for the eye's to see properly but it looks like a dent from the hammer, if so will you be using the iron trick to steam it out?.

@@simonr6793 thank you for this awesome comment! I’m working on my 3rd video now and hopefully you won’t be disappointed! 😊 I looked back on the video and I actually think I have videos of steaming out some dents on the drawers and other parts of the cabinet. I’m sure they will be in a future episode. I try to show the mistakes as that’s just part of the process.

That is so bloody annoying when you have spent so much time and effort into making sure everything is perfect and as soon as you put the pieces together a small piece of the joint breaks off for no apparent reason. Just how annoyed was you when you noticed it was broken 🤔, it's one of those things that I always have a problem with when it happens to me as at that point in time i think to myself "what's bloody next"🫣😳. Nomatter the overall thing turned out pretty good and if that's the only mistake/issue with the build then it's definitely going to be one heck of a piece that will last for a long long time and look great doing so. I look forward to seeing you finish the tool's storage home and how you arrange your tools for the maximum use of the space 🤔🧐. As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.

@@simonr6793 ya know…that type of thing used to really bother me, but it doesn’t as much anymore. I kept that in the video because to me it’s all part of the process. I actually forgot about that one until I was putting the video together. Mistakes happen. It’s how we fix them that counts. 😊

I'm so sorry that I missed this comment. Thank you very much. I pretty much always start with shellac, then polyurethane. About two or three coats each sanding with a high grit between. After it dries I hit it with 0000 steel wool then wax it with Johnson's wax.
