Dios guarde a Paul.

This is what most bass players today don't understand. They only have two modes: 1) playing only the root note of each chord plus some additional passing notes, and 2) playing incredibly intricated lines with a lot of scales which sound more like a solo than like an accompaniment. Please listen more to McCartney and you will discover that you can also play an accompaniment which is based on a recognizable melody while still performing the function of a modern bass guitar and playing all the important notes. This is one the things that make the Beatles recordings great.

It is a killer bass line, um, I like the idea but you're strings aren't very well tuned. Maybe do a retake? It's either your low E or A string. oof. Sorry, I'm a guitarist singer songwriter, too. It would be far more enjoyable if your pitch better matched the track. Peace.

It sounds like a take from one of the original tracks of this song, electronically utilizing an added manipulation of the bass line an octave higher (to sound like guitar) and with distortion. It’s cool in that it sounds like Paul was thinking of the bass as a melodic instrument but it also kind of shows his E string was a bit flat. I suspect some punch-ins may possibly have been used on this version to correct flaws however and use for the final version of the song

Ignore all the haters. They just like to argue. This sounds great and just emphasizes how much Paul's bass playing added to this song. The song would just not have been as amazing if Paul had 'toned it down'.

Huh! In my mind, having it come across as a kinda distorted lead guitar part shows how strong that melodic bassline is on it's own! It's uncanny when you watch McCartney on the Chaos and Creations or that bit on a talkshow where he just bursts into a jam and whistles out an amazing melody... just how music is just pouring out of that guy like it's an endless fountain!!!

With all of the isolated tracks from classic rock available the last decade or so, I discovered how important Mecca's bass parts were to the success of many many Beatles tracks. Yes, they were a band. Paul's bass parts were well developed and well written. In some cases, those parts are central to the overall arrangements. Listen to tracks without the bass and decide for yourself. Bass guitar was my first instrument.
