How can i control the scale to which something propegate for example i said in my message earlier that my first goal is to revive an almost dying subculture but i dont want it to become mainstream because i think it'd lost its uniqueness ive read chapter 6 about networking a movement while i agree that the community should always be open for newcomers i dont want it to have more than 2000 people in it, also this question of how to control how much that subculture propegate is related to other things like how much a movement grow in real life for example from a city to a state to a country etc i gave this example but its also related to other things

One time you said that in a vision of tomorrow we shouldnt have a metric attach to it im trying to revive an internet community that use to have around 200 hundred people connected across a day now it barely has more than 10 people, in my vision of tomorrow there's a metric of having around 300 hundred connected across a day but its a metric so does that means i have to rethink my vision of tomorrow because it includes a metric?

That would be a keystone change, not a vision.

What about the phisycal barrier when it comes to movements with the internet in your book you said that connections are built faster from longer distance and with the six degrees of separations is it possible to create movements that achieve change only using the internet and also with the language barrier like occupy and the lgbt movement, Let's say i want to spread feminism in countries where women doesn't have equal right with men would it be possible to do that with the phisycal and language barrier because feminism has been spread throughout the western world but barely in other parts of the world which is unfortunate

Yes, it's possible. What matters is how you identify relevant institutional targets and design effective targets to influence them.

At one point you said that if we feel the need to persuade someone it means that we have ether the wrong change or the wrong person so if we have the wrong change does that means that we have to change our keystone change or our vision of change or both?
@Greg_Satell
@Greg_Satell 2 ай бұрын
Usually it means that you need to find people who are already enthusiastic about your idea. You shouldn't be working on a Keystone Change with people who aren't fully on board. They often fail a few times before they succeed.

Is it a bad idea to work on more than one goal of transformational change whether its on the same thing like a business organisation but youre working on two or more goals and whether its on two different things? It takes time to get to a transformational change so working on more than one seems apealing however i can see the cons of it, Working on one transformational change can be difficult so having to focus on two different ones or more could be even more difficult so it might lead to higher chances of failure?
@Greg_Satell
@Greg_Satell 3 ай бұрын
Generally it's best to focus on one, but it's also a good idea to think about sequencing ideas so that one successful change makes the next one easier.

what about knowledge lets say i want to improve the movie industry of a country that is in decline has someone who isn't in a network linked to that industry, empowering others who are in that network is great advice but do i need to become a bit knowledgeable on it to achieve changes?

Here's the thing i have so many ideas of things i'd might change/improve however there are subjects where im a little bit knowledgeable on it and others where i just have a surface level understanding of it or even barely know it and its more like a vision that'd be great to achieve like for example improving the economy of a country/making a country richer, or something more specific like the movie industry in general or in a country in particular however like i said previously these are examples of subject where i dont have knowledge on or a little bit at best do i need to gain more knowledge in subjects i dont know in order to achieve a meaningful change? and also in another video you said that cascade can be used by anybody in any context and in my case im just a random guy in the middle class who'd like to achieve meaningfull changes in things like economy where im not a part of a network yet

The best way to make progress is by empowering others. You can't always solve the whole problem by yourself, but you can do something. You can do your part.

Ok but what makes a keystone change "concrete and tangible" contrary to something that'd intangible and abstract because get a rought idea of that but this tip still seems a bit abstract to me
@Greg_Satell
@Greg_Satell 5 ай бұрын
Great question! A Keystone Change applies to a specific objective, like completing a project or getting a law passed. A vision tends to be more aspirational and focused on value, such as a "digitally empowered organization" or a "free and equal society." Clearly, change efforts need both, but they need to be separate and distinct. If your vision is too tied to a specific objective, it will sputter out once that objective is reached.

Can cascade help with things that involves internet subculture? Like spreading that subculture or creating some sort of identity around a subculture and using cascade so that people would respect that identity?

I made the link between the book cascade and internet subcultures after watching a video made by istura that talks about a war between green aliens and purple aliens in gta basically there was someone who made a video on reddit and some of the people who saw that video did the same thing and over time it got mainstream

Id like to gather a bigger playerbase on several video games that used to be played by more players for example almost all the battlefield games and gta 4 online but as the editors of those games focused on other project they completly moved on from those online games and as time passes the playerbase gets smaller and smaller. Do you think that cascade could help me with this goal?
