Fantastic video. I'm very new to this and it was hard to find any information that wasn't "hire someone" or "BUY EVERYTHING". I learnt a lot and feel more comfortable making some decisions and finding a direction. Much appreciated!

Thanks Jonas. I've been waiting to record snow this year but we haven't had any snow up here in Zürich except for one day about a month ago, and that wasn't much at all. I know you're down in Bern region, so it looks like you had a lot more. I saw Grindelwald had A LOT and I heard that you can^t even drive to the village anymore and they have serious avalanche warnings. Crazy. Anyway, thanks for the video and I wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas.

Merry Christmas Jonas! ✨ Thank you for making all these interesting and entertaining videos this year! The Binaural Sound Experience is very nice! Will you implement it in a future track? Maybe it is nice to run it almost inaudible (like vinyl noise) in the background of a moody track.

I like the setting! Feels like a wisdom talk! 😉 I really can relate to your first point. The technical knowledge is getting in the way of pure creativity. I‘m currently unlearning a lot of „rules“ to be more creative instead of „doing it right“! And also there are infinite rabbit holes to go down and discover new stuff! 🫠🤣 Thanks for sharing! 🎶🥳

@@kunstundfantasie Hard to pin it to a specific timeframe. I think of it more of an evolving process, you add techniques, and you stop using them, some stick and some fade away. Especially if they are not useful enough or if they are blocking your creativity.

Does the mic require power of any kind? How have you connected it to your recorder?
@JonasFasching19 күн бұрын
Yes it requires plug-in power (which most recorders or cameras have). And I have connected it with a 3.5 mm mini-jack cable. There are also other SR3D versions with XLR or USB, you can find them with the link in the video description.

I go out of the DJ mixer into a second laptop and a USB interface to record into a DAW like ableton, nuendo, cubase. The only problem is I tend to find skips/jumps in the recording, especially when i do 1 hour mixing.
@JonasFaschingАй бұрын
Sounds great! Thanks for your comment! That sounds weird about the skips... if it sounds like crackles you could maybe try to increase the buffer size in the daw. That could be a possible cause of this. Other than that you might describe the issue a bit further.
@jpswerve182Ай бұрын
@@JonasFasching Not crackling. When I playback my recordings there will often be 2 or 3 songs that have jumped i.e. a split second of music was not captured in the recording. Could it really be a buffer size/ memory problem?
@JonasFasching29 күн бұрын
hmm hard to tell. but i guess this might be an issue with your interface or with memory of your computer. it's difficult to tell you more from that. could also be an issue with your harddisk that it struggles to save after a long time.

Excellent content! Thanks for sharing your wisdom Jonas! 🙌🏻 Having a rough blueprint before arranging is the most helpful technique in my opinion. You can fill it with your ideas from the loop, your rough sketch so to speak. Without a blueprint I literally get lost all the time! 🤣🎶

An excellent demo Jonas, You could add "perspective control" which is simply the volume on playback for binaural headphone listening, here with my HD250s a volume of 20% on my windows Dell laptop sounded to be about the right levels as if I was there with you. The other thing would be, you touched base that the sounds bounce off the pinna before entering the canal, which is correct, the other thing that could also describe it is that with conventional mics, the sound is directly recorded from the diaphragms of the mic capsules, whereas binaural is indirect, or reflected before the sound waves hit the diaphragm, this is ultimately where the binaural tones (or binaural colouration cues) are induced to the sound as it is reflected off various surfaces of the pinna, I understand that the well-read may be confused by that perspective in looking at it, as many institutional books and papers do not describe in detail that particular function, but more of timing differences which, when experimenting, you would find simple stereo micing setups can replicate those timing differences without the "externalised experience" of binaural, as there are no binaural cues (colouration artefacts from the pinna) with standard microphones.

While I agree that you may need to develop an idea further before it starts to click, I don't agree with setting a 3-hour timer. If you're not feeling a track, it can be helpful to walk away and do something else to clear your mind. Attention spans are typically around 25 minutes, especially if you don't have expertise in a subject. It's easy to work on something when you know what you're doing but that can just be frustrating and counterproductive for people who are actively developing new skils and creating new connections in their brain. Trying to work on something truly challenging for more than 25 minutes at a time often comes with diminishing returns. Not to mention ear fatigue.
@JonasFasching2 ай бұрын
For me it often works to get into the flow.

Your advice against spending too long on a song and instead focusing on finishing songs feels a bit oxymoronic. If I knew how to finish songs, I wouldn't be spending so long on it.
@JonasFasching2 ай бұрын
You make a point. For me it helps to shift my focus and make this an actual priority (for example by giving myself a deadline for particular steps). But to each their own. It's just what I wished I would have focused more already earlier on and i feel it's the part i neglected the most.
