I have never done a race that is only 8 minutes long. I am going to have to give this race a try next year. A lung sucking sprint then go have a beer and a nap. All my XC racing has been on courses that were significantly longer. Four 5 mile laps or, joy of joys, a 50 miler. The 50 miler was the Butte 50. 10 hours and that was middle of the pack. @HumberGarcia2 ай бұрын
So many problems with your analysis: 1) you’re comparing an entry level e-mtb that doesn’t fit you to your stumpy Evo. Should be obvious what the problem is there. 2) you rode an e-mtb with someone on an analog. Of course you’re not going to get as good of a workout! You should be riding with someone else with an e-mtb or solo. Otherwise you’re not going to be pushing yourself. 3) You didn’t use the e-bike like an e-mtb. When I ride my e-mtb for 1.5 hours, I get at least double the mileage I would on my analog. My heart rate during that time is similar to when I ride my mtb because I’m still pushing. I’m just getting more mileage for my effort. There is a difference in how much leg strength is needed for analog pedaling but you can still get a great workout on the e-mtb.

Get on a quality eMTB designed for trails like those, and they can be amazing. The bike in this test is useless for trails. If descending is your stoke, eMTBs give you more of it. All the talk of eMTBs and fitness is useless. It's all goal dependent. Want to get in descending shape? eMTB for the win! ("reps reps reps" said every coach ever). If you want to get better at grinding climbs, sure, skip the eMTB. Want Zone 2 cardio?....eMTB.

Try riding a good full suspension ebike thats your size. And you should definitely try one of the new sl ebikes. I have the pivot shuttle and absolutely love it. It feels more like a natural bike with some extra power behind you.full powere ebikes have way to much power. And yes you can get a better work out with an ebike. You can do a long climb and keep your heart rate where you want it and not have to stop and rest. You can keep going. You just cant put it in turbo and leave it there.

I'm 71 years old and have been riding for 42 years. When you consider the kind of easy, smooth trails you are riding.....I agree. No need for an e-bike. But try out my usual ride with an e-bike. I often ride 2000 ft. initial climbs at 10,000 foot elevations, with rocky strewn babyhead trails. If you came with ne, I think you would look at it differently. This is especially true if you are riding a real enduro, full suspension SL bike, like the one I ride. i regularly hold a 150 bps heart rate on climbs in full boost. That's enough fitness training for me, at least with getting chronically tired, when riding 5-6 days a week.

I finally bought an ebike this year. Just turned 64. I was going to wait another year, but Transition put their bikes on sale and I decided to get the Relay PNW. So far, I have really enjoyed it. I am happy with the smaller motor and lighter weight and it works great for the techy trails that I enjoy. Still ride my bike also. Just depends on who I'm riding with. Enjoy riding both. Just finished a trip with a friend. First two days were here in the U.S. The next six days were up in Canada. My friend is about 10 years younger than I am. Much better shape endurance wise. It has gotten harder for me to do the big trips with consecutive days. Having this bike has made it possible. I am not usually in a hurry going up. On our trip, I just followed him up everything at his pace (he is pretty fast anyway). Heading down, we take turns on lead. It was nice to be able to ride together and talk as we went up. We rode 8 days in a row, and according to my Trailforks log, we did about 20,455'. and 90 miles. Couldn't have done that on my Esker. On my future trips, I plan on taking both bikes with me. Circumstance will dictate what I ride. I bought my first mountain bike in 1984 (Stumpjumper Sport). I've ridden everything from then til now. Rigid, front suspension and full suspension. Rim brake, V brake, disc brake. Triple chain ring with 5 speed rear to single ring electronic 12 speed. Bikes have come a long way, and I am sure they have more changes to come. Hopefully, I will be here for some more of them. Keep pedaling, respect nature and others and enjoy! Life is too short to bitch and moan about what other people ride. 😊

I have been on an ebike pretty steady for 2 years now. A full sus (150/160 travel, 50 lbs) Scott Genius with Bosch. I do ride my acoustic (150/150, 28 lbs) still but not as much as the ebike. I find they are two different sports that look alike. On the ebike I get to do laps and rides that I would consider too difficult for the acoustic. Last weekend it was the 8-miles of Hell ride near Butte MT. On the ebike it was technical fun. I have done it on an acoustic. It was 8-miles of hell. Not fun, just abusive. The total ride was a 27 mile loop. Fun on the ebike. Not doable for me on an acoustic. Both bikes have compromises involved. Do not expect the same ride out of both. On the ebike I look at 30 miles with techie climbs and steeps up and down and think "fun". On the acoustic I think "nope". On smooth swoopy downhills the acoustic is faster and more fun. 28 vs 50 lbs. On the nasty downs I like the ebike. The suspension works better on the heavier bike. But as soon as it gets flat I hit the 20 mph limit and am pedaling a 50 lb bike. Ugh. I ride Galbraith Mtn by Bellingham WA on both. Two different experiences. On the ebike I can easily get 4 loops in a day. The acoustic 1 or 2. Blue Ribbon is a blast on both. On the ebike it is whizzing downhill driving a Mack truck. On the acoustic it is flicking a 911 Porsche. Very different but a hoot on both. For the older riders (I am 71) it is a god send. For those of us with physical issues (I have 38 yrs in the military, one bullet hole, one IED, and one bad parachute jump and a whole lot of abuse to the body) the ebike allows me to ride every day. If I try the acoustic every day it just rips my body parts into a mess. I figure I have extended my being stupid on a bike into my 80s. On the ebike I hang with riders in their 30s and 40s on ebikes. On the acoustic I have to find people in their 40s and 50s. (Twenty year old's are going to kill me.) On the same trail the riding experience will be two different events. They really should not be compared. Enjoy both for what they are.
