Enjoyed it, Paul. Thanks for the shout out. Clyde hits a couple of low notes in the "B" part that we can't reach. It's one of those tunes where we could use an extra bass string on a 5+1 banjo.🗝
@pauldraperbanjoАй бұрын
Thanks, I’ve picked up a lot over the years from your playing.Yep 5+1 is the key…

I know right. This tune derives from one that was popular in the latter part of the 19th century called the Rainbow Schottisch.

Fantastic Sir. One day I am going to get a fretless. I just ordered a $300 AC-12A. It will be my second banjo and my first 12”er. Hoping the larger pot will give me some of the warm tone I hear in some of these old time videos

Do you play with any fingernail on your right hand? I struggle to get good tone when I play clawhammer without any nail, but then I struggle to play classic-style banjo if I have any nail. You achieve great tone with both styles, so I'm wondering how you balance that.
@pauldraperbanjoАй бұрын
I trim the nail very short to buildup a little callous on the tip of the finger so when I strike the string I hit it with a combination of finger and skin. However, to get more definition and volume I will use one of Hooks’ banjo thimbles. banjothimble.com
@pauldraperbanjoАй бұрын
I’m not using a thimble for this tune, but I am using one here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJjFeKSBr7WqnZosi=5qJaxfCEIJKnMuKI
@andsweet22Ай бұрын
@pauldraperbanjo Thank you! I'm going to give the thimble a shot.
