I find it odd that they would get completely new System Sensor devices when they could just use the Wheelock system without music. My local Walmart was built in 2014 and still has its Wheelock system going strong. They actually have the new tones and “Walmart radio”, but they are still pumping it through the original Wheelock system. The neighboring city has Walmarts that were built in the late 90’s. Those have their original Bosch fire alarm systems with System Sensor horn/strobes, but they got the EV upgrade last year.

2:30 Those speakers are EXTREMELY common in my area. Although, funnily enough, my local Lowe’s does not use those. I remember them the most from my elementary school that I went to. That building opened in 1994 and these were the original speakers hooked up to a CareHawk system. In 2019, almost every school in my district upgraded to Audio Enhancement IP based “EPIC” systems with JBL 70v speakers in the common areas and Audio Enhancement IP intercom interfaces in the classrooms with integrated microphones and audio from the projectors. One of the only schools that didn’t get the upgrade are the middle school, which was built in 2008 with a Dukane StarCall system (that system is still in service, but it honestly shouldn’t be because it has a lot of issues). The only other school that didn’t get the upgrade was the high school, which was built in 1957 but had a CareHawk system installed sometime 20-30 years ago. They actually still have all of the original 50’s-70’s speakers in service. That school definitely also could have used an upgrade, but it didn’t get it because they were planning on building a new replacement high school in the near future (that is now open). Since 2019, two new schools have opened in my district. Those schools also have Audio Enhancement “EPIC” systems, but they use Audio Enhancement branded 70v speakers (that actually have taps up to 50w) in the common areas instead of JBL speakers. 5:33 That old high school uses some of these, but the mostly use Stromberg-Carlson speakers that are flush-mounted into the walls of almost every classroom.
