Pero hablamos de griego clásico, el griego clásico se pronunciaba con fonética etacista, si bien eso está a discusión, lo que es claro es que los espíritus ásperos en el griego clásico [en todas sus formas: jónico, ático, eólico, dórico e incluso koiné...] SÍ se pronunciaban de forma aspirada, de eso no hay duda. En lo personal no me gusta que se pronuncie el griego clásico a la manera de griego moderno. El griego moderno surge del griego koiné, la peor de las versiones en términos literarios y filosóficos, la ἡ κοινὴ γλῶσσα o dialecto común fue la decadencia del griego. Es obvio que un griego moderno pronuncie el griego clásico adaptándolo a la fonética moderna, es más fácil no esforzarse por aprender la fonética clásica. Ser griego moderno no significa ser helenista, creo que un verdadero helenista respeta la fonética clásica. De pronunciar un idioma como se te pegue la gana o como tu propio idioma te de a entender, entonces no necesitaríamos aprender la fonética del francés o el alemán y pronunciaríamos todo idioma a la manera del español. Pese a que sea una lengua muerta me parece bastante grotesco, sería un anacronismo fonético. Respecto al ejemplo que usé, tienes razón, en ese caso la sintaxis da la pauta para saber de qué partícula se trata; pero fue un ejemplo muy burdo, hay muchos otros. En fin, yo prefiero apegarme a la fonética y sintaxis clásica. Saludos.

Most people mean classical attic greek as in 5th century bc. In the same way as most mean 2 century bc latin when they say classical latin pronunciation.

This is **ancient** Greek with contemporary pronunciation. Nothing changes this fact!

It isn't unthinkable. That's the tradition that every Greek speaker followed along the ages; i.e. to read every period's Greek with each Contemporary pronunciation. It would be weird and unfruitful to read the same words that exist in modern Greek in a different fashion when we, Greeks, speak ancient Greek. E.g. pronouncing θάλασσα, ἀγγελιαφόρος, Περικλῆς in two different ways, would also be heavily confusing for Greek-ancient Greek learners. Moreover, that's the tradition of the Orthodox church. The same happens with the Catholic church, in which Pope Pius X recommended the Italian in 1912. Changing tradition is unthinkable!
