They are limited in what they can adapt to the show. That has been a problem with adaptations of LOTR. They know better, but are tied legally by the Tolkien Estate to do worse. As for the barely alive area going cold due to Sauron's dispersal, you could chalk it up to Durnost not being that far into Forodwaith. Areas just don't snap suddenly into a different climate, and they gradually get there. My guess is that this is southern Forodwaith in spring, but now it is in eternal ice. The rest of the area north could still be in ice, and Sauron just killed what little life the area had. Plus the people of the area declined for some unstated reason. This could be the start.

Sauron was Maiar and shapeshifter. So only his body can be destroyed and it is not easy. If his material envelope gets destroyed (like in Numenor or in the War of the last Alliance) , his spirit lives on. It is not clear how fast he can take a physical form again but he did it after his 2 deaths. His third death was very special because he "poured" his malice and vital energy into The One Ring so that when the One is destroyed, his spirit gets destroyed too and he (probably) looses forever his ability ro revive. The presentation in the Rings of Power is ridiculously absurd - first is that the Orcs would never be able to murder their Lord and second is that even if they could, his spirit wouldn't incarnate in goo and then wait 3000 years before taking another form.

Great content, The Magus. I loved how you broke down the complexities of the Numenorians and their relationship with Sauron. It's fascinating to see how their power dynamics mirror historical events! Given the biblical parallels you mentioned, do you think the portrayal of Sauron's influence as a political advisor could lead to deeper themes about power and corruption in the series? Keep up the excellent work!
@darkembernovels
@darkembernovels 3 ай бұрын
Yes, definitely. Sauron as political advisor mimics the anti-Christ concept in Revelation, which Tolkien's buddy C.S. Lewis used in the last book of the Narnia Chronicles. While I don't agree with the way in which they deviate from Tolkien's work, I do like what they want to do with Sauron. However, it is very crucial that his relationship with both Elves and Numenoreans be handled accurately because the impact of Sauron's death cult later on in Numenor is a serious warning to the West about what happens when we "fall from Grace." D.H. Lawrence described that fall as an endless spiral in his poetry.

Ahh I get it. I also am not too familiar with the lore, but isn't it stupid that the elves are unchanging and never had doubts like a younger Galadriel might have? I mean even higher order beings like the Valar and Maia can and were corrupted to become evil. If Galadriel has never doubted in what she believes in she's just an npc no? Regardless, the series is shit this is actually just something I have wondered about in general.
@darkembernovels
@darkembernovels 3 ай бұрын
Galadriel is misrepresented in the series most of all the characters. She was a brave, independent thinker who from the beginning did not agree with what her brothers and uncles were up to, but who nonetheless believed in the cause. She was one of the only three personalities in all of Tolkien's creation who was not tempted by the rings. It's not that the Elves don't change, it's that they are secure in what is important to them. There is no doubt in their hearts regarding what evil is. The only elf Sauron seduced was Celebrimbor by exploiting his love for metallurgy. The story of Middle-Earth shows all its peoples must come to accept and learn about change through their interactions with first humans and later hobbits. With elves, like Galadriel, because they live forever, that change comes typically at a cost. By the end of the Third Age, Galadriel has awoken to that fact. That's why she can form a bond with Gimli the Dwarf, which was previously unthinkable.

This video was tough to listen to. You could've made the point in 5 mins tops. No need to ramble for 15 minutes making the exact same point over and over again. No hate, just feedback in order to make better genshin community content. I agree that new players shouldn't use the Transmuter. It's detrimental to a new account's growth. HoYo needs to adjust the rate of Sanctifying Elixirs moving forward. 1 goblet every 4 patches is BS. That being said, if your account is at a point where every character is maxed and kitted out, do use this tool. 1.x players (specially 1.0) who do not go on hiatus and even extending to 2.x players just use the damn tool and get it over with. Upgrading and recycling trash +20 artifacts is nothing (specially at the current rate of 1 elixir every 40+ days). For players like that, it's no longer about wasted materials or efficiency. It's about missed opportunity. This is a godsend for those who spend their resin without a useful goal anymore.

Aemond as a character disappointed after the time skip. As a kid he seemed level-headed. Took his bullying in stride for the most part. He was a go getter and claimed his own dragon. The way he spoke to Aegon about marrying Helaena, he seems honorable and duty bond. Shit the way he rationalized trading an eye for Vaghar showed a certain level of maturity. But then he grew up, and everything except the duty stuff flew right out the window 😂
@Timquan.
@Timquan. 3 ай бұрын
I see what ur saying but I gotta disagree a bit. S1 Aemond was perfect. The line about trading his eye for a Dragon wasn't him accepting the situation maturly, It's him trying to calm his mother while also threatening those he has come to accept as enimies from that night on. It showed he was able to read a room better than anyone in the Royal family, and that he cared to not see his mother hurt for pushing the line. He never wanted revenge he wanted Justice, he legitimately never wanted to kill Jace but to give him the punishment he was owed for maiming Aemond. I do agree tho that in essance Aemond was dumbed down drastically between s1 and s2 more specifically from Rook's Rest on. Of all of Viserys children Aemond is the one who is King Minded and I'm sad that they are turning him into a one note tyrant in order to make Rheanyra look better.

Well, there is a lot of unpack, so I will unpack it rationally. 1. The dragons are compared to nuclear weapons, and what is the point in comparing them if the story is not going to show what happens if they ARE being used and consequences that follow. 2. Good and evil is a perception of humans alone, it does not exist in real world. And what Martin show is different perceptions of different people of what is good and what is evil, different points of view. 3. You should double check the definition of fantasy because you are wrong there too. Basically what you are saying there, is that fantasy world can only be made one way, the way you think is best, which is Tolkien or the bible, but in reality, who are you to say what it is and what it isn't ? What you expect is another middle-earth in every fantasy book, with the same, good vs evil theme, but in reality it is not what defines fantasy world. 4. The vicious cycle of decay, the human ambitions and desires at display for different points of view, the politics, the fighting, the conflicts and different values and world views is the theme of this story. So your argument is that you dont like the theme of the story, and it is silly. It is the same if I said that i dont like Tolkien because of its theme, which is good vs evil, friendship, courage, fate and free will, so that means it fails fantasy genre because it fails the standards I have set in my head. 5. the expectation of fighting against bigger evil and so on is very closed minded one. If you want such stories you can read children's books. This is not a book for children. This is not a story only about basic good and evil. 6. This narrow idea of dragons in your mind is also very silly. I think humans being able to ride them is more believable than dragons being able to speak, or them hoarding gold and stealing virgin maidens from villages. And even so, a dragon is a dragon whatever the writer decides it to be, and no matter what, the writer is right about it, because he is the one telling the story, he is not trying to write another lord of the rings, he is trying to convey his own ideas and his own story. 7. no, fantasy does not have to follow any universal rules, because it is Fantasy! And game of thrones does not belong to the world of Tolkien or other stories, means it does not have to follow the rules of those fantasy worlds. And it does not have to follow your imaginary fantasy world, because that is all it is, imaginary. 8. This video has no common sense. And fantasy does not have to follow common sense at all, because guess what, if it did, it no longer be fantasy. 9. Calling something garbage just because it is too heavy for you or too complicated to understand, makes your opinion hollow. 10. The good and evil is very obvious in the song of ice and fire. But it is not children book level of obvious which is why it is hard for you to understand it. These balances happen not in overarching plot, but within people themselves, every single decision, every desire, every action is balancing between good and evil and every character has different feeling of that balance. It is subtle, it is careful, it is rewarding and punishing. Sometimes they have to do bad things for good outcomes, and some characters always trying to do the right things but end up hurting everyone. It is complicated, like life is. And if it is too heavy or complicated for you, that does mean it failed fantasy, it just means it is not for you. In the end, the song of ice and fire is about people, not about greater good and evil, and it is not a fairytale, it is dark fantasy. With this video you expressed the frustration with this story because you completely missed the point, and tried to trash it by gatekeeping dragons and fantasy. But your problem is that you mixing up between fantasy and fairytales. What you seek is the later, and dark fantasy is just too heavy for you, since as you say, you already experienced enough darkness in your life, and I get it. But what annoys me is that you are trying to give rules to fantasy and make other people to follow these rules, that in reality, only exist in your head, your opinion. Maybe you do need to read a bigger variety of books to stop being so closed minded. This applies to Harry Potter books too. Seems you missed the point there too. And your biggest problem clearly is that for the most part, you dont like things that are popular, and you try to be '' not like the other boys'', and pretend that people are wrong, only because they do not match your perception. Maybe you are the wrong one?

This video has a lot of pointless opinions masked as some form of fact. Dragons across all mythologies and stories are portrayed differently. You immediately proved your ignorance on literature when you claimed that writing for entertainment is a recent or modern idea, which is completely false. The ancient Greeks and Romans both wrote plays and stories for entertainment and humor, and the Arthurian legends were never taken as actual lore or myth, but were merely seen as inspiring stories. Writing in general is not something to be gatekept, Tolkien's view on fantasy is not the end all be all, nor is it the only type of fantasy that exists. Dragons being able to speak is equally as ludicrous and stupid as Valyrians being human/dragon hybrids. These are both insane ideas, put to pen and paper by writers who wanted their own respective in universe lore to be unique and stand out. "Dragons should speak," is not a fact, nor is a widely held opinion, millions of people love how Martin constructed his universe and made the dragons within that universe. They are animals, not gods, not humans, animals, and they have blood ties due to ancient Valyrian magic. It's not hard to grasp that these beasts are not meant to be seen as equal to humans. In general this video has no basis, aside from bold claims and ignorant views on a subject. Tolkien and George's universe both have their respective places within the fantasy setting. That's not even mentioning Lovecraft, Howard, and many more writers who had their own unique visions on fantasy, dark themes, and overall fantastic worlds imagined and out to paper and eventually media. You can love all fantasy, and understand that they are all unique and different in their ideas.

I think it's a very anthropically centric way of thinking, saying that because we have language, we have the ability to reason. I'm writing a fantasy series where greater dragons are just as intelligent as humans (sometimes more so), but they use their magic to apply their thoughts onto another beings brain (basically, they use telepathy). This doesn't require a language, but it's an efficient means of communication never the less. You can convey emotions, images, impressions, and basically let someone understand what a situation is doing to you and lead them on the path to why, all without the interpretation of language getting in the way.
@darkembernovels

I liked your analysis of the reason why Dragons speak in Tolkien's work, but I believe someone with such an interesting way of seeing literature is limiting themselves by saying, "I didn't read the books, and I won't." Saying that Martin has dumbed dragons down without reading the books is unfair. Give it a chance. Even if you don't like it, you might come up with a very interesting analysis of it, just as you analyzed Tolkien's work, and I would love to listen to each analysis, even though I might disagree. For all intents and purposes, dragons in Martin's world are animals, but it's difficult to say that they are just that since they are connected to magic in a way that the characters don't fully understand, not even those who control them. They are living weapons, both beasts and gods, representing both the beauty and horrors that human beings can inflict upon each other. They are something that should be out of our reach, a power that no one should wield, yet some do. The entire story is about what happens to the world when some people have more power than they should, control more than they can, and their vanity harms more than just themselves. What happens when they have access to weapons of mass destruction that they don't fully understand or have full control of? I started asking all of these questions after reading the books, that's why I can't say that dragons are just flying dinosaurs there, but something truly interesting to talk about.
@aidanpreston2456
@aidanpreston2456 4 ай бұрын
I think you're mistakenly taking a very blunt approach to this thought. I agree with the understanding that the Tolkien Dragon is equated to fight Gods, or the Valar--more precisely in the battles with the elves in the first age. However I disagree with the analysis that dragons are not symbolic in HOTD or GOT, they represent what I believe to be two things: that of untamed natural power to be admired and feared, and controlled power (nuclear power) to be used--and abused by the characters in the show. Martin does a good job of showing consequences of the dirty everyday political scheming and power grabbing that has always occurred between the powerful. I think taking a step back to realize also that they become extinct and eventually become the reason for their houses' fall is something to consider when you're talking about purposeful storytelling. This quite literally represents ripples across generations. I think to hate on concepts as large as this is a hard line when it becomes so broad--which is why I like many fantasy worlds, but all have their flaws.

Also George loves tolkeins work however his thought process cant stand his style, George's work is fundamently different by choice he's not trying to mimic tolkeins style. George's dragons have purpose and deep meaning in both lore and what they represent throughout the stories, they are a power of godlike proportion but they are not gods as goerge is not as heavy with magic as tolkein. Dragons are also not unbeatable they are just near unstoppable just like Targs themselves in fact no amount of dragon power could take dorne. Then there's the bond between rider and dragon and how deep it seems to be in George's work. If we really want to find meaning then dragons represent a physical manifestation of the primordial force of nature, fire. Using the bible as a yard stick isn't really all that useful as it is a book wrote by man it's as susceptible to bullshit as anything is.

The thing is, Tolkien’s dragons are more like fantasy mystical beings, smarter than humans. Martin’s are like exotic rare animals. They behave like animals and the bond with the rider is tantamount to a pet and an owner. Not being able to speak like humans doesn’t make them less of characters. Each of the GoT dragons has a personality, and we see this clearly in HotD.

Funny enough, it’s clear as the show goes on that Vhagar wants to murder other dragons more than Aemond does. I'd like to ask, how is Aegon being burned Christen's fault? Him being there was never part of the plan.
@darkembernovels
@darkembernovels 4 ай бұрын
Without getting into the writing craft, the writers are correctly developing Aegon's character arch to be about how he feels left out and doesn't want to be "made a fool." Everyone is icing him out of the important decisions and he's fed up with that. Furthermore, he took a big risk by making Criston his Hand and he finds out from Aemond that he and Criston are plotting important war moves behind his back. Then he tries to vent to his mother about it and she tells him "do what is expected of you: nothing." That was the last straw for him. You can say that Alicent was the catalyst for his decision to fly into battle. (Alicent's poor parenting is a big theme in the plot.) But it was Criston who betrayed Aegon's confidence when he refused to include him in the discussion about how they would attack Rook's Rest. Therefore Aegon was manipulated into a decision he would have never made if Criston had kept him in the loop as he should have, being his Hand and in the King's Guard. The nuances of character arcs depend on psychological vulnerabilities and how they are exposed by the writers through other characters to give realistic reactions and decisions that prove fatal or prove to be a break through in the character development. In my opinion, Aegon is one of the most interesting characters on the show thus far.

The significance of Criston lies in that Aegon made him his Hand, which means he placed all his faith in him being his number one, and when Aemond reveals they've been plotting without him, he felt that trust misplaced. Yes, several individuals had a hand (including Alicent) but it all started with Criston. And most of the poor decisions since Otto left come from Criston acting alone without involving the council, unlike with the Blacks. It's very subtle but it's there.
