This is a Money drummer. That means his time is so good as is his ability to make the other players sound better than they are at the stage they are at! He is therefore a musician worth more money. Because of his ability to raise the music to the next level.

In jazz is it true to say the drummer's solos are nearly always unaccompanied?

You guys are awesome. This is my favorite kind of jazz: brisk, very energetic, highly interactive, risk-taking but not so "out" that a listener can't hear the harmonic relationships between what's happening with the different instruments.

These guys are so good it's hard to find words. All the quoting going back and forth, total jamming interplay. This is what great groups in the past were all about.
