Visiting and working with the lean rock stars at IOV, Hospital Municipal Dr. Jose de Carvalho Florence, and the Lean Institute Brasil is certainly a career highlight. Thank you Roberto Priolo for documenting and sharing.

It's a little surprising how immature most operations still are after a few decades of lean being popularized. I guess this speaks to how nonintuitive our modern (read: unnatural) environment is, or how unadapted humans are to it. A few hints: - Get rid of the words "efficiency" and "productivity" and just focus on the 7 wastes. (Not 8 btw, it's TIM WOOD not DOWNTIME) - Don't ever try to reduce costs. Reduce waste and everything else takes care of itself. - Start at the end of the process and figure out why things are not going out the door, then head upstream and fix things as you go. Then go back to the end and start again. You can't push a rope. - Genchi genbutsu - Systemic root causes are most commonly lack of process and lack of training. Even both of these can be 5-why'd.

I have used many dealerships in Joburg and Pretoria and yes the vehicles do go through quickly. However, the standard of work is sub-standard. On one visit we asked the brakes to be checked. The report can back as 'no problem'. Days later we went to an independent garage and it was found out that the brakes where actuially through the pads. After many bad expereriences we now go to two independent workshops for cheaper, faster, more reliable service.

I hate this thing. I was assigned this to me when I had no idea this really exists. I totally hate this.

A better way to remove the Post-It Notes is to pull straight down so they will stay flat. When you pull up, it causes them to curl.
