Ok the acting when Shirley is crying over the loss of her father is kinda stilted a bit.

I think he likes humans because they're everything he is not (can form connections, show emotions, react to different situations). It's as though he lives vicariously through others in some sick and twisted way by putting them in shitty situations and seeing how they react.
