On August 22nd, we will dedicate the Mammy Kate painting here by Ishmael Titus, shero and hero of the American Revolutionary War who helped create the United States of America. Does anyone have information about my great grandfather His slave last name was Hyman. My 2nd cousin was the iconic amazing talented singer Phyllis Hyman. My grandmother Bebe and my Aunt Brother was Earl Hyman iconic and talented Actor who was on the Cosby Show as Russel Cliff’s father.

Thank you so much for putting this together it hit home for the time it takes I’ve only been surcharging for two days and it consumed both my days and now I’ll I can think about is finding my family/ Ancestors so I can tell my kids their stories and so on and so forth. I’m 33yrs old and to not were you come from can have feeling lost in America. History is so important

Thank you!! Some of this wonderful information will be useful in my quest trying to flesh out 1 of the life of my great grandmother's great aunt. Lol. I have been fascinated by her... I have her photo. But I don't think she had any children. So, no one else will be researching her. However, I don't really know. I have her when she is young at home and then married late in life. Her family seems to have disappeared off the 1880 Census... but, I still need to do some digging for that. And she's not been found on the 1900 Census. So... I have a 40yr gap to fill. And definitely invaluable information for other ancestors where I have roadblocks.

I am doing research on my family. Sometimes it is hard. Because my parents did not want to talk about the past. My parents and grandparents are from North Caroline. I want be able go to library because of my age. Do I go to website North Carolina Cohabitation records or what is correct website. Thank you

Being colored dosnt denote to be enslaved or not as they had free colored as cencus says and we also know whites and Asians were both enslaved in America.

I have a question, what makes these people slaves , the writer marriage documents state colored but it dosnt say slaves nor dose it denote African slaves where is the supporting evidence that these so called colored people are African slaves . When historically we know the first slaves were aboriginals of America not to mention , indians were reclassified as negroe to colored... can someone explain.

I found the marriage bond/certificate of my maternal Great Great Great grandparents who were listed as 1/8th Black in Craven County 1860. What does that mean?
