though i started with noticing SPOILERS that the bulbs of the thermos in the first two boxes all see each other, so i colored them 4 ways, and then R2C3 abd R2C4 also see all of those 4 and each other so they were the remaining ones which was beautiful because each one saw something in a different way

Thanks Mark for featuring this puzzle and also mentioning my book. As usual, a wonderful solve. This was one of my favourites from the book as well because of the solve path and also the way it was designed.

2:35 minutes for me, definitely the fastest i ever solved one, but i also did one recently that was very similar to this, just with a "hidden circles" twist on top, so this was pretty much just an easier version of that one

I absolutely love the naked single 5 from box 7 glaring us in our face the whole time and not being placed till 15 minutes in, it shows how skilled a person you are that you dont even need all the give away numbers to complete a solve. This is me being genuine not sarcastic i know it could be taken either way so i want to make it clear i truelly enjoyed it.

Lovely construction. After the first easy box 8 I stared at it and finally saw the way the clues combined to make the way clear. After that each remband in turn proved crucial.

If you continue the colouring, then it's clear that R2C6 and R5C8 are the opposite colour from the 8s near to them. Then either R2C2,4,6; or R4,6,8C8 are a 123 triple depending on which of purple and green is low. Either way R2C8 must be 4 or 6, so R1C7 and R3C9 are from 123, and you get a 46 on R2C2,4 and on R6,8C7. From there, the puzzle is fairly easy.

Ancient Greeks invented Atoms, as smallest part of matter. They could prove the existence of Atoms by using drop of mixed oil and ether poured on top of bowl of water. As ether vaporized, oil separated into a broken blanket atop of the bowl, because the substance couldn't just keep dividing infinitely to create complete cover. Today we know, that they actually discovered molecules. When the French scientists discovered atoms, they named them after the Greek Atom, thinking they found the smallest possible part of matter. When we discovered protons, neutron and electrons, we had to start talking about elemental particles, because it was too late to use Atoms now. But then, experiments shown that even protons must divide, even if only for fractions of time too short to be thought about. They named these particles quarks, as that is word for non-sense, and the experimental results were total non-sense at the time :)

Excellent puzzle, lovely flowing logic from zetamath as he does. Video has me little squirmy but we love you anyway Simon. I wonder if you ought to get keyboard that makes it easier to hit the number keys blind - either a numpad or some bumps or something. (I thought muscle memory would set in, but it's been years now and you very regularly hit the wrong number and correct when you see it on the screen)

31:45 Simon spent a long time on a crazy deduction to prove that you can't put a 9 in either 9 region in box 1, which was really cool to hear! However the way I saw it was just that if you put a 9 in one of those squares, it breaks the 17 region regardless of if it's green or gray (if green you cant make 17 in 2 cells without using 9, if gray you can use 7 but then you need 10 more and there's no high digit left because the 14 region uses 6 and 8). So that to me was easier than what Simon eventually did. Still cool though!

Simon making sense of why I find it easier to do cryptic crosswords by reading all the clubs bottom to top!!! I always start with the last down clue and read every clue back towards one across notating and annotating as I go and only then once I’ve answers what I can within the clue list will I look at the grid and see what of the answers I have I can place for maximum impact to then attempt clues I didn’t pick up ok first inspection.

The rules doesn't say anywhere, that "normal sudoku rules apply" or anything about digits not repeating on rows/columns/boxes. Is it supposed to be left for the solver to discover whether sudoku rules apply here or not?

I took about 3 minutes and said "Nope, I'm just watching this one". Using a theorem analogous to uniqueness, I am now 1hr into a 90 minute video that must be solvable or Simon would not allow me to watch it. There is not a single digit placed, and not enough remaining clues to disambiguate everything ( so I foolishly believe) and yet I somehow know that the combined insane genius of both Phistomefel and Simon is guaranteed to provide a unique solution shortly. I definitely am not worthy. Thank you both and I hope to see a setting video for this puzzle. Now back to the insanity and some serious head shaking on my part.
